"Bad Kicking Is Bad Football" is a phrase you hear a lot, usually after you've just had an inaccurate day in front of goal which has cost you - if not a win, then certainly a chance for a win. The phrase was surely uttered repeatedly by Norwood supporters at E.Ringwood Reserve on Saturday, as our profligate kicking saw us squander a first half lead before finishing with a wildly inaccurate 9.17.71 to fall well short of E.Ringwoods final 15.7.97, despite having four more scoring shots.
Early on it was all Norwood with Kris Nye in everything, Monky winning in the ruck and Stuey Hill and Ev Johnson solid down back. At 1/4 time we held control 3.6 - 2.0, but the wasted chances were a worry.. E.Ringwood responded in the 2nd qtr, narrowing the gap to just 7 pts by half time, 6.9 - 6.2, but still a Norwood vistory seemed likely..
All that changed in the 3rd quarter however, as E.Ringwood seized control of the general play and banged on 5 goals to our one solitary major, and at 3/4 time we trailled by 16pts, 7.13 - 11.5.
E.Ringwood scored the first 3 goals of the last quarter to effectively ice the game, and while our boys ran out the game well we were unable to threaten victory, eventually succumbing by 26pts, 9.17.71 - 15.7.97.
The loss sees us slip to a 4-2 win/loss ratio, and we are now 4th on the ladder with a very tricky road trip to E.Burwood our next challenge. Happily, the Reserves and Colts both had victories to continue their good seasons.
