Racial and Religious Tolerance This week the media reported a high profile case of racial vilification concerning a VFL football player. With this in mind, it is timely to remind all families and players of the Norwood Junior Football Club position in relation to such issues. There are several State and Federal laws against Racial and Religious Vilification and these laws are backed up by AFL, VFL and EFL policies. Norwood is a signatory to the Eastern Football League’s Racial and Religious Tolerance Policy and all players are reminded that they have signed on to the Norwood Junior Football Club Code of Conduct which includes strict adherence to the Racial and Religious policies. (http://www.efl.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/forms_downloads/2011/EFL_By_Laws_2011.pdf) At Norwood any form of racial or religious vilification or intolerance no matter how minor will not be tolerated. Any person who feels they are being subjected to such treatment from anyone, be it team-mates or opposition, is encouraged to approach your Coach or any Committee Member. Education is the first option, but any complaint found to be justified may result in sanctions that include counseling, match suspension or total expulsion from the club. We ask parents to make your children aware of this statement.
