Stage 3 water restrictions do not allow watering of either the top or bottom ovals at Morton Park. As a result, the City of Whitehorse have banned preseason training on all grounds within their municipality. Other Councils are also doing likewise meaning that very few football clubs have access to ovals for preseason training. Council have recently extended this ban to end of March and have also dictated that no practice matches will be allowed on any of their grounds. They are doing this to ensure grounds are in the best condition they can be for the start of the football season on 22nd April.
At Blackburn we have hired the Bill Sewart Athletic track (next to east Burwood's ground) from 6.00 to 7.30 pm on Monday nights through to the end of February where running and sprint drills are the order of the day. We have also obtained use of Blackburn High School's ovals on Thursday and Friday nights from 6 pm for ball skill work and full oval drills. The grounds are hard and dusty but players are relishing the opportunity to do some ball work. Despite the restrictions, numbers have been excellent and we have seen an impressive list of newcomers on the track.
The Colts are also training the house down with excellent numbers. Joining last year's bottom age Colts are the cream of the 2006's Under 16's and a terrific number of new recruits drawn by our excellent Under 18 program. Watch out for these boys in 2007, they are really going places under Johnsy.
