Mark Paterson (Patto) and Michael Dwyer
Congratulations to Mark Paterson and Mike Dwyer who each received a Deakin Australia Day Award from Federal member Phil Barresi last Thursday for services to Blackburn Football, Cricket and Sporting Clubs. Both are very worthy recipients of the Award for their years of service.
Mr Michael Dwyer
Michael Dwyer has been involved in sport in the Blackburn area since 1983. His involvement was initially with the Blackburn Cricket Club, as an administrator and over time he has become an integral part of the Blackburn Sporting and Football Clubs. Mike is a Life Member of the Blackburn Cricket Club and was Secretary for 10 years. He has been Secretary of the Blackburn Sporting Club for the past 12 years as well as Secretary of the Football Club for the past 4 years. Mike tirelessly gives his time, energy and passion to these clubs. He has lived in the area for 55 years and has 2 sons. Mike retired from his career as an Actuary in the Insurance Industry. Michael's administrative skills have also been recognised in his inclusion as part of the support team for the Crusaders Cricket Tours with their overseas trips. His work continues on a daily basis and is recognised with this Award.
Mr Mark Paterson
Mr Mark Paterson has been actively involved in sport in the Blackburn area since 1976. Mark was a key leadership figure in the creation of the Blackburn Sporting Club which was established in 1995. Mark has served as club President since its formation twelve years ago. In his other role at Blackburn Football Club, Mark has served with distinction in a number of roles. He is currently Vice President, and has been a committee member for fifteen years. Mark was also recently honoured by this club, having been made a life member. Mark is still a keen cricket player and has been part of three successful Blackburn Cricket Club premiership teams. As one of the longest serving committee members of 25 years standing, Mark has held a majority of the roles including three terms as Club President. Marks commitment to local sport is exemplary and has deservedly been acknowledged for his efforts.
