ON-FIELD -
The Under 18's are taking some big steps forward under the coaching of David Robinson, and after playing 3 teams in the first 3 weeks that all played in grandfinal's last year (Nth Ringwood in Division 2), they manged to get thier first win of the season in round 4 against Heathmont.
The young talent on display between 10.00am and 12.00pm is very exciting to watch and I encourage all supporters to get down to the games early
and see some of Coldstreams future stars strut their stuff!
The Reserves haven't managed to get a win on the board at this stage, but it's a long season and i'm positive that Leroy has the players on his list to turn this around. It seems they boys just aren't clicking as a group in this early part of the year, but as the season continues I have no doubt that this will change........the numbers on the track are good and the willingness to want to improve is there - but like a good red wine - these things take time.
The Seniors have 2 wins from 4 games and at this point are undefeated at home, which is a trend i'm sure the senior coach would like to see continue for the rest of the year. Speaking of the coach, at this point Leam Doughty has kicked 30 goals in the first 4 games and is leading the 3rd division goalkicking, a great start to the season!! With very few practise games during the pre-season it was always going to take a few weeks for the playing list to gel as a team, as we had 9 new players in the senior line up for round 1, so to be positioned where we are after the first four games is not a bad result.
Good luck to all of the boys for this weeks game's, Nunawading is always hard to bet on their own dung heap - but I have a feeling that 3 wins is on the cards!!
OFF-FIELD -
So far the season is going very well from a committee point of view.
With Mark Stewart & Lorraine Graham looking after the social membership & merchandise, Sam Baker looking after the canteen, Lee 'slab' Lawrence looking after the outside bar, and the rest of the committee helping out when needed, we are slowly getting the club into a good position.
The ladies in the kitchen are turning out meals every Thursday night that would impress Jamie Oliver, and Wendy behind the bar will put a head on your beer that only she knows how to do!
Batchy is back in town cooking a BBQ at all home games, and from what I understand is thinking about starting his own BBQ business things are going that well.
I'm sure that after 2 home games everybody has met our new man at the front gate!
Jay has been sensational so far this season and is quickly becoming one of the more important volunteers at the club.
All in all things are in pretty good shape moving forward, but this is only due to alot of hard work being put in by people that love the footy club.
Our football club could not survive if it wasn't for the volunteers who put their hand up week after week to help out with jobs that need doing, so to everyone helping out this year, thankyou very much, and to anybody who is keen to jump on board please contact me, as there is always a job that needs doing!
Kind regards,
Steve Hancock
