The Sydney Swans delighted many junior footballers with a two day visit to Port Macquarie. Youngsters got to rub shoulders with Brownlow Medalist Adam Goodes and learn from some of the superstarts of the future with various school visits, clinic and coaching session as well as a dinner at Port City Bowling Club.
Perhaps the highlight of the visit was a dinner at which Adam Goodes paid tribute to the administrators and players on the Mid North Coast and encouraged those involved to keep up the hard work. "what you've achieved in such a short time is a tremendous effort in an area traditionally dominated by other codes. Keep up the good work and keep urging them to send us along because what you are doing is working". Goodes took a lot of time out to not only kick footballs, he spoke to indigenous players and high schoolers, he chatted to Auskick kids about school and Christmas and he never once knocked back an autograph or photo request. Accompanying Goodes were three other talented Swans in Josh Kennedy, Taylor Gilchrist and Lewis Johnston.
"I'd like to pay credit to the AFL for allowing something as valuable as this to happen and to Chris Gridley and his team of development officers for facilitating what was an outstanding two days.". MNCJAFL President Kim Wiegold said.
"The Swans representatives were fantastic role models on the day and participated with genuine enthusiasm".
"As a parent I am only too pleased to support AFL however able as I see it as a fantastic sport and culture to raise my boys and they are very eager for AFL to recommence".N.Ninness said.
