Last week saw us take on Nangas in reasonable conditions and we came away with 3 solid wins. This week we take on another finals aspirant in Tantanoola and tonight is one of our favorite events in the Formal. Starting at 7pm with a cocktail theme let’s all get dressed up and enjoy a great night. Keep a look out for all the functions coming up in the next few weeks as the season draws towards the finals this is the time to support the club & the events planned.
Mini Mossies: No game again this week mainly because we had 9 players go to Adelaide and play at ½ time during the Crows and Hawks game. This was a great experience for all the kids and to see their face throughout the night was fantastic. I would like to thank all the parents, care givers and grandparents who made the trip to Adelaide to support the kids, a great effort and one that continues to make the under 11’s a great team.
Junior Colts: With a few players away we started the day with the bare minimum of 18 players. The lads took a few quarters to get going and although they had the majority of the play they couldn’t convert on the score board. We steadily improved as the game went on but at times lacked decisiveness around the ball. Once we ran and carried the ball the boys were able to break the game open and score freely. Brett Russell was our stand out player and has shown he can be one of the best mini colt players getting around with a BOG performance. Trent Gibbs has shown enough over the last few weeks that he is an asset to the team and his competitive football around the ground is second to none finished the day as our second best. Tom Vanderhorst has played consistently well over the year thus far comes in at third best. Brodie Gregory was great up forward with his attack on the football creating many scoring opportunities. Conner Wilson and Reece Gamble round out the top six best players with serviceable games picking up possessions at will. Thank you to the lads who played for Nangwarry during the game to make it a competitive match.
Senior Colts: The Senior Colts took on a depleted Nangas side but with the assistance of the Burr boys, both junior and senior colts we were able to have a decent hit out. Thanks to all the guys who played for the opposition especially Jacob Fox who played out the entire match for the saints and gave his all, and also to the junior colts who acquitted themselves nicely. We now start our tough road home and with each week being a challenge the boys will have to be on their game if they wish to participate in the finals.
B Grade: Very disappointing game from the B’s this week, with so much to play for we let ourselves down again and now have to win all our remaining games to be a chance to play in the finals. It’s not over yet guys so believe in your selves and anything can happen. We play really good football when we get on a run so let’s concentrate on playing this type of football with the attitude of nothing to lose and let’s see what happens. Best last week went to the ever reliable coach Ferg, Ash Butler, Juddy Hughes, Luke Thiels & Shagger smith.
A Grade:Conditions were perfect for an open brand of football which is exactly what we were able to produce last week against Nangwarry. The opening quarter produced a free flowing style of football which allowed the likes of Chris Murray and under 17 Hayden Schultz to register the first six goals of the game. To Nangwarry’s credit, they applied pressure across the ground however it could not stop the intensity and pressure which the Burr boys applied until the final siren. It was pleasing to see four under 17 players front up in the Senior side and each held their own in their respective positions. A very special mention to Billy who adapted to the A grade sooner than expected in his first senior game. Better players for the day included Hayden Schultz, Jon Agnew and Josh Wallis mopping up across half back. This week see’s us play arguably the most important game of the second round thus far when we take on Tantanoola. Let’s hope the boys maintain their aggression and intensity today.
This week Josh Wallis plays his 50th senior game for the club, congratulations Josh we all hope there is many more to come. The Formal Dinner (August 2) is a great way to enjoy a 3 course meal with light music and a great atmosphere, please see Gards, Justin, Ron & the committee to purchase your tickets. Please remember the Goods & Service Auction on (August 9) is a major fund raiser for the club so if you have donations or services you can provide please see Adam, Ron, Justin & the committee as soon as possible. We would like to get a list of items to be auctioned out a couple of weeks before the event. A big thanks this week to all the people that help or run our facilities on a Saturday of home games. From Trev, Hendo & Horry at Canhill, Gards and his crew in the BBQ, Wayne, Shane & Ron doing the training, Anne and all her support people in the canteen, Finchy for the announcements, Bill on the gate, Ava & Tom on the scoreboard, all the boundary umpires & goal umpires we thank you for a fantastic job each week, your support and help doesn’t go unnoticed. Please thank all your support people that help in anyway as these people are the life blood of the club and need to be congratulated for all the wonderful help.
Hell it’s good out here
