Mt Burr hosted the Mid South East League Anzac Day Sporting Medals Pilot Program on April 24th. During the third round of the 2010 MSE Football Program, Mt Burr played Tantanoola at home.
The game at Mt Burr was selected by the SACFL & Netball SA as one of the 10 Football and 10 Netball venues to present the ANZAC Day Sporting Medals.
It was a Pilot Program put together by Veterans SA, in partnership with the RSL, Netball SA, South Australian Community Football League (SACFL) and Geoff Baynes from the Building Communities Division of the Attorney- Generals Department.
There were 10 Football/Netball Leagues participating: Adelaide Plains, Barossa Light & Gawler, Great Flinders, Great Southern, Mallee, Mid South Eastern, Northern, North Eastern, River Murray and Yorke Peninsula. If the Pilot Programme was succesful, it may be spread to more leagues in future years.
The medals were named after a prominent serviceman and woman from the respective regions.
It was a very successful day at Mt Burr with the local RSL branch selecting Adam Wiese to win the "Herb Ashby 2010 Anzac Medal" for most courageous on ground.
Prior to the game, the Mt Burr and Tantanoola football and netball teams and umpires formed a cross on the oval facing west. All observed a minutes silence.......
The Last Post and Reveille was played over the around pa system and Millicent RSL President, Bruce Clayson said the "Ode to Rememberance".
90 year old local RSL member, Mr Jim Hamill tossed the coin with Mt Burr winning the toss and deciding to go with the breeze.
