Welcome to the 2021 Football season. Firstly, even though most of you may know me already, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Josh Koop (Koops), I will be the Head Coach for this season. I have previously coached the Moddies 2015, Mini Colts 2017-2018, Junior Colts 2019 and also the premiership-winning 2020 side @ Goolwa - Pt Elliot FC, amongst other roles within the club. I am very excited about this opportunity and can not wait to see where this season takes us.
This document will hopefully cover Coaching Philosophy/Style, Game Style, Training, Rotations, Selection Process, and Game Day Expectations. My role, I feel, this year is to assist the players in the development and
improvement of their fundamentals of the game, whether it be skills or positioning/team roles, and guide them along the way in being competitive, and being able to compete and succeed in any situation.
The player age range with the Juniors means everyone develops at a different rate, physically, therefore game time needs to be tailored for each individual. All players are of different sizes with different abilities. Our aim is to nurture and develop their SKILLS to enable them to contribute to every game they play, to the best of their
ability. Each player develops an understanding of the game differently, therefore we need to help them ALL understand the game plan in the same way, and how we are going to execute that game plan. The aim is to develop a game style that will flow on down from the A grade right through to Mini Colts, slightly less complicated as the grades go down but at the same time giving the players some understanding of
what's expected in future grades.
Our key is to develop each individual to play a team-based game, with a team-first mentality, whilst developing future senior footballers. We want to get across that all players are equal to the team, whether they are a 1st
or 3rd-year player, everyone has to be a part of the team for the team to succeed. Everyone has a role in the team, and if they do that role with 100% effort and determination, the team success will come effortlessly. For us, we’re not overly concerned about how many possessions a player gets, or how many goals are kicked, it's the 1% and team efforts that will win and lose games. It’s more important/discipline to set up a teammate in a better position than kick a goal yourself, it’s critical to shepherd for your teammate so he has more time to make decisions, and it’s imperative to help and encourage your teammates. You can still succeed in
contributing to the team on game day even if you don't get a kick or a touch.

Team First Football
- Fast movement with the ball in hand by both hand and foot.
- Honouring our Teammates effort in getting to the right position & space, to be the next option by using him.
- Hard defensive/offensive pressure causing turnovers by the opposition.
- Executing effective setups and positioning around the ground enabling us to gain possession from centre clearances, ball-ups, kick-ins etc and also forcing the opposition into positions/areas they don't want to be in.
- Hard running both ways, attacking and defensive, always be involved and accountable.
- Run-on flow, handballs from marks where we can open up the field.
- Forcing oppositions wide and into slow play.
- Attack 40m arc in front of goal, giving our forwards every chance.

Game Day
This season the club is encouraging all grades to try and come to all games this season in some form of club apparel. It’s a great look for our club, and team, and will help us in setting some standards for the year. In saying that we’re also aware some players may find this more difficult than others so if there is any
concerns regarding this matter, please come and see me or Deb for help.
As we touched on before, this year we will likely incur some rotations with ALL players at some stage. All players not playing on that specific day are required to attend the game and support the team. We still need players there to help with preparations, encouraging teammates and running the water.
Selection Process
We understand that this year our numbers are sitting around 25-27, therefore some rotations will be required. At this stage, EVERY player will be rotated at least once throughout the year which should get us to about rd11-12. At that point, every player should have missed only 1 game with the rotations process. Then the rotations will begin again, rotating through the first-year players first, then second years if required. That being said, no player should miss more than 2 games for the regular season if all works out. If we happen to make finals, the team will be selected on the BEST 23-25 available, taking into account training attendance, player performance, team contribution and payment of fees.
Training
- Every player is responsible for their own training attendance. If you/they can’t make it please endeavour to notify coaching staff ASAP.
- Players are required to train both nights when available. SANFL, ASSOCIATION commitments count as attendance and will be recorded. Other Sports also may overlap at the start of the season, which is fine, as long as we know.
- Train Like You Want To Play
- Performance at training is key, train as determinedly as you would play, also helping prevent injuries.
Rotations
- All players regardless of age, skill, and experience will be rotated at least ONCE throughout the regular season up to round 11-12.
- All players WILL spend time on the interchange throughout the regular season.
- Round13-18 the 1st year players will be rotated first, then second years if required.
- Upon a Finals Campaign, we will endeavour to select the best 23-25 available.
THE MORE YOU PUT THE MORE YOU WILL GET OUT……
