Coach - Ben Longmire
Playing since I was 5 I’ve always been just a humble country footballer having played over 150 games of Country A grade football. I’ve played majority of my football at The Lock Football Club on the Eyre Peninsula where I was born and raised. I was lucky enough to find a lovely Goolwa girl to bring me to this beautiful town that I fell in love immediately.
I’ve been involved in the Goolwa/Port Elliott Football Club for 6 years playing majority of my senior football in the reserves grade in my older age. Winning the 2015 B grade best and fairest and then captaining the side the following years being involved in a grand final losing side in 2017.
Having had many great coaches over the years, I have been lucky to learn from the best and build a solid foundation of knowledge on the basic fundamentals of what it takes to succeed at senior level.
Having played many games in reserves in the past years I understand the level of commitment it will take as a new player/coach. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to coach what I know will be a very solid outfit throughout our senior grades.
I am extremely passionate about the development of the junior players coming up through the senior ranks and obtaining players through a great team environment as their football journeys continue. I want to make sure that their transition to senior football is as smooth as we can make it, while still maintaining structure and discipline.
I believe in team first football, which requires a lot discipline and respect between the playing group. I love the unsung heroes of the game ie; back men or any defensive player playing a role for his team. These players are pivotal to success and will not go unnoticed.
I am just a country footballer that loves his football and loves this club. The Goolwa/Port Elliott Football club welcomed me with open arms and it is a privilege to be able to have this opportunity to build a foundation of respect, discipline and success for this club and the community.
