The weekend saw the Under 17's take on our rival neighbour Willunga. Without captain Proctor, Steve Nairn stepped up as captain.
In the first quarter, Willunga had a bit of the ball with McKee starting well in the Back Pocket, blocking off a few of their passes as Chahla scored our only goal.
The second quarter saw us working a bit harder but for no results on the scoreboard and Willunga had a 4 goal lead at half time.
I asked the boys to lift their work rate 25-30% more and in doing so, saw us kick 4 goals in the third quarter. Good goals to Wisbey, Quinton, Chahla and McDonald squared the ledger going into the last quarter. It was now game on.
The last quarter was nerve-racking, with a see-saw battle happening a goal to us a goal to them. Joel Vandeleur goaled late in the quarter to put us in front with 2 minutes left we had to hold them out with McDonald and Fenoughty doing that assisted by Davis and the back line.
Some great performances from players but this was a team effort with every player playing his role and contributing to the end result, which was a win for us. Well done fellas, don’t stop now - we owe Mt Compass now.
Cheers Moll
