Season 2011 finally started and we were greeted with winter weather as we travelled to Yankalilla. We did not get the start we had been hoping for but it was only round one - there is room and time for improvement.
The Under 14’s under Glen Munyard tried their hardest in weather conditions we weren’t used to. We were unsuccessful but the team have a good attitude and will improve and progress through the season.
The Under 17’s played a good competitive game and they too will improve under the guidance of Jamie “Mole” Molling. Unluckily Jim Ledgard, in his first game for the Club, broke his arm. I wish Jim all the best in his recovery and hope to see him around the Club.
The Reserves were the only shining light for McLaren as they had a good win. I believe Dale had to give them a bit of a rev up but it worked. We have a relatively young side and to start off with a win is a credit to their endeavour and attitude this year.
The ‘A’ Grade had a slow start in the first quarter resulting in them having to play catch up football for the rest of the game. Steve Hill has a new group of players and it will take time to gel together but the vibe through the playing group is positive, so get on board and support our Club.
It is good to see that the new players and their families have mixed in well both on and off the field. I invite everyone to Thursday night teas and game days to take the opportunity to renew friendships and make new ones with the players and their families who have joined our Club this year.
