Other than being a little breezy and fresh, the weather at Goolwa was good for football. The day started with a close contest in the under 14’s with Goolwa coming out on top. However, our boys played well and appear to be adapting to the gruff voice of Dale Wilson.
The under 17’s again put in well, having a good standard game but with a couple lads in the ‘A’ grade, it made the going a little tough. I congratulate Jamie Molling and his assistants for their efforts as the team improvement is a good sign for the future.
The Reserves again showed they are a true contender come finals with a good win over a lack luster Goolwa. Often when playing a lower side they drag you down or try the “Rough stuff” but our boys continued to play their high standard and came away with a good win.
The ‘A’ grade finally had a win - even though it wasn’t pretty. However, we never looked in trouble as it was our inability to kick goals and had we done so, we would have won by a far greater margin. It is good to see the younger members of the team starting to play four quarters of solid football.
It was pleasing to see good numbers attend presentations at the McLaren Flat Community Club and thanks to the Kahl boys, Dave Broughton and Cam Hockey for cooking the “Sausage sizzle”. I would like to thank the McLaren Flat Community Club for allowing us to use their fine facilities.
I also remind life members and sponsors of our day at the McLaren Football Club on Saturday the 7th of August when we play Encounter Bay. There has been a minor change as - we will meet in the clubroom rather than the pavilion.
There are 5 minor round games to go, so lets all get behind our teams and support them to the end as they deserve.
Go Eagles!!!!!
