Player Flashback - Patty Sharp

One of the most successful careers by an individual, Paddy burst onto the scene in 2001 as a 17-year-old. Such was his impact that year, Paddy would not only make his senior debut for the club but would gain selection into the senior interleague team.

A tenacious player with incredible endurance and skill, Paddy would dominate the competition for over a decade.

A 3 x Harold Ramage medallist, which is still a record that is held today as the leagues Best & Fairest winner, Paddy has earnt the respect throughout the region.

In a fitting way, Paddy finished his career at the Woori Yallock FNC after leading from the front with another Paddy Sharp performance, this time as the captain of the 2012 premiership team.

A Great Player that has played a significant role in our Clubs History.

Player Flashback - Daniel Lewis

Daniel Lewis was recruited in 2012 from the Milawa Football club where he had kicked over 100 goals in 2011.
His time at Woori was short lived but will never be forgotten by the Woori Yallock Football Netball Club.
Daniel had an immediate impact with 9 goals against Healesville in round 1 of the 2012 season and going on to kick a further of 72 goals for the season, including 9 goals against Wandin in the Qualifying finals at Yarra Junction.
A premiership player Dan has etched his name into the Woori Yallock Football Netball Clubs history as one of the clubs most dynamic forwards.

Player Flashback - Williamson Brothers

PLAYER FLASHBACK

When it comes to talented families to represent the Woori Yallock Football/Netball club on the footy field its hard to go past the Williamson brothers.

With all 3 brothers coming through our junior ranks Dan ‘Willow’ burst onto the scene in 2003 against Belgrave Football Club in spectacular fashion, taking mark of the year within minutes of the game starting and going back to kick a goal with his very first possession in senior footy.

Dan was an extremely talented player and became a nightmare for opposition defenders. His game during the 2007 Grand Final against Silvan was memorable for a few reasons. Firstly, kicking 5 goals in a losing grand final was a fine individual effort but during an all in-brawl between Woori’s forwards and Silvan’s defenders a ‘fiery’ Dan Willow inflicted some damage with friendly fire on teammate and key forward Dermott Brereton. Derm played no further part in the game after breaking his nose on Dan’s elbow.

Tim like Dan settled into senior football well. Many will argue that Tim was the most freakish player to play for our club if not in our competition. His speed, skills and agility had many left bewilder to what they had just witnessed.

Tim was a highlight reel, and still to this day people will talk about his performances. Who could forget his goal after the siren to beat Warburton FNC on the day of the clubs Centenary dinner, or his dominant performance in the 2013 Preliminary Final against Wandin FNC.

Having two such talented brothers playing for the club, we all waited in-anticipation for the younger brother Joel to come along and he didn’t disappoint. Joel possessed many of the traits as his brothers.

Joel would become more of a midfielder rather than a forward. His speed and ability to take the game on was a huge asset for the team. Time after time Joel would break the lines providing opportunities for our forwards.

A moment we all remember is his goal in the 2012 Grand Final that secured the premiership in the final quarter. Receiving the ball in the middle of the ground, Joel danced and weaved his way to goal. A controversial goal, due to the fact Joel ran 40m without bouncing the ball once, but a memorable moment in our club’s history.

Player Flashback - Shane Piper

PLAYER FLASHBACK

Shane began his career with the Woori Yallock juniors in the late 1980’s before finishing his time in the juniors in spectacular fashion by kicking 118 goals in 1993.

As a junior Shane was an imposing figure on the field, not only was he feared by the opposite, but his own teammates feared the consequences if they didn’t pass him the footy. This would often end in either an abusive reminder that he was the full-forward, to losing your lunch money at school the following day.

Shane transformed his game during his senior career by becoming a formidable midfielder. His strength was his ability to win the contested footy and supply his teammates with opportunities.

Shane commitment to developing his game was impressive and he set a great example for others to follow, no more so than his 2003 season. Shane living in Sale, made the 5hr round trip twice a week to play a pivotal role in the clubs 1st senior premiership in years.

Player Flashback - Terry Worlley

PLAYER FLASHBACK

Terry began his career as a junior for Healesville in the early 1970’s before moving across to play for Woori Yallock juniors in the under 14’s. In 1976 Terry played in the under 17’s and soon became a regular in the senior team during one of the most successful eras in our club’s history.

A premiership player in the 1981 senior premiership team, Terry was known as a tough competitor with exceptional skills who had crafted his game as a small forward but would often be found gathering possessions at will as a midfielder.

Player Flashback - Shannan Hawkins

The flamboyant forward was the ultimate showman, on and off the ground.
Arriving from the Yarra Junction Football Club in 1989 Hawko had an instant impact at the club.
A leading forward and a beautiful kick for goal, Hawko was always in the action, often drawing the attention of the opposition players and their supporters.
Regular appearances at the tribunal saw him miss 22 games over 5 years, in which Hawko claims he was innocent on many of those occasions.
1994 was a standout year for Hawko, that saw him selected in the senior representative game against SWGFL, where he kicked 4 goals in a match winning performance.
The round 8 clash against the Gembrook Cockatoo FC that same year was a day Hawko will never let any of us forget, 16 goals in a masterclass performance was simply incredible and is still a club record today!
But Hawko finished that season in controversy, being suspended once again, this time for a minor elbow contact to his opponent’s jaw. This cost him the League goal kick award by 1 goal, ending the season on 83 goals.
An entertaining player that will live long in the memory of Woori Yallock supporters.

Player Flashback - Trevor Spicer

Rising up through the junior club, Trev finally made his debut in the senior team in round 3 of the 1973 season.

A lightly built player, Trev adapted to senior football quit well, consolidating his position as a wingman for the remained of that season.

Not only a highly skilful player, Trevor was known as one of the toughest competitors to have pulled on the jumper. The story on the time Trev was bitten by a shark and didn’t even shout is evidence of his toughness.

A dominate season in 1981, not only saw Trev play an inspiring role in the 1981 premiership, but he also represented the league in its interleague game earlier that year.

Trevor’s success continued late into his career, winning his fourth premiership in the 1990 reserves win, as-well as winning the 1991 reserves Best & Fairest at the age of 35.

Trev continues to be a valued contributor to our club, 30 years on since his last pulled on the jumper!

Player Flashback - Ivan Ferguson

As the longest servicing member of the WFNC, Ivan Ferguson has been a remarkable contributor to our club for over 70 years.

The dairy farmer from Woori Yallock began his career in 1948 as a 17-year-old.

Blessed with incredible speed and silky skills, Ivan soon became one of the stars of the competition, which saw him gain selection in the YVFL representative team in only his 2nd season of playing football.
The following year (1950) Ivan would win the clubs Best & Fairest at the age of 20.

During this period, Ivan would also win the Yarra Valley Gift 3 years in a row (1950, 51 & 52) highlighting his exceptional speed.

Ivan’s commitment has continued long after his career had ended in 1960, where he took up the position as the club’s president.

From 1960 to 1962 Ivan lead the club into a new era, before returning to the role for a further 5 years from 1970 to 1975.

Throughout this time, his wife Joan has been by his side. The two have left remarkable legacy at our club, and for that, we will forever be grateful for the service they both have given.

Players Flashback - Dallas Spencer

PLAYER FLASHBACK

When it comes to home grown talent, there’s not to many better than Dallas Spencer .
A career that started in 1983 with the Woori Yallock Juniors, Dallas went on to have a Stella career at both junior & senior level.
Round 1 of the 1994 Season, Dallas as a 16 year old, made his senior debut against Upwey Tecoma FC.
Dallas was the complete footballer, with not only incredible speed and strength, but he was a skilful player, with a beautiful kick, that rarely missed.
Dallas took on many of the competitions great forwards over the time, and rarely was beaten,no more so than Essendon & Silvan Great Gary Moorcroft, where the two would battled it out during a period where both clubs were at the top of their games.
A career ending knee injury cut Dal’s career short, just falling short of 300 senior games and another premiership in 2012.
Loyalty is defiantly one way to describe him, and that loyalty continues today, as a coach of not only 1 team in the junior club, but 2.
Dallas will be remembered as one of the greats of our club!
