The
1960's started out well for the Club with finals appearances in both 1960 and
1961, although finishing second in 1961 was a disappointment. Following those
early years of success, a period of decline set in which was not arrested
until the decade's mid years.
In late
1965 two club-deprived football bodies, the Mountain District Football
Association and the Yarra Valley Football League, held urgent talks with a
view to combining their meagre resources into one, hopefully strong, football
competition. As a result of these talks the imaginatively named Yarra Valley
- Mountain District Football League was born and began united competition in
1966.
For the
Upwey - Tecoma Club the union was to prove bountiful. The inaugural
premiership in that 1966 season was won by the Senior team and they then made
it back to back flags with another win in 1967. That '67 grand final is still
classed by many who witnessed it as the finest ever. Certainly it was the
closest, with the three point margin in Upwey's favour still the narrowest
grand final winning margin.
