OLINDA FERNY Creek took home the 2005 division two premiership flag last week for the first time in 17 years.
Showing heart and a desire to win its first premiership since 1988, OlindaFerny Creek nailed Belgrave South to the wall in a ninegoal victory.
A solid back line performance and dominating clearances around the pack gave OlindaFerny Creek’s forwards many opportunities to set up the win.
This win has given the club its first premiership win since 1988, with Andy Greenall and Mick Scott the only two players left in the Olinda team who played in the 1988 premiership.
Both, Mick and Andy have played over 250 games for the club between the 17 year premiership gap.
Coach Steve Longham’s first year at the club has had a real impact on the team’s playing style and mental toughness.
First year captain, Heath Thompson said the premiership win made all the hard work that the team had put in since October last year worthwhile.
“From preseason games in 40 degree heat to the freezing training nights in the mud and snow... it just makes the win all the more sweeter,” Heath said. Final scores saw Olinda Ferny Creek 18.17.125 defeat Belgrave South 11.5.71
