All players must attend the Mt Evelyn Anzac Day service on the 25th April dressed in full club uniform. Be at the RSL, 49 Birmingham Road, Mt Evelyn no later than 5.45am. Friends and family most welcome also.
MT EVELYN RSL will hold its first Anzac Day service this year.
The RSL decided on its own service due to overcrowding at other services in the area and to encourage more people in the community to get involved in the remembrance.
The service will commence at 6am sharp, followed by a reading by Scouts and a bible reading by CFA captain Ken Mitchell.
RSL president Derrick Crittenden said Anzac Day was the most important day for the RSL.
A lot of planning and organising will go into the day and, as it is a public holiday, it is needed.
RSL secretary Laurie Hollier suggested the possibility of holding a service.
We don't want to lose the essence of what the day is about and some services were getting so big.
It also honours people who do good now, like the ambulance and fire services.
Cr Tim Heenan welcomed news that Mt Evelyn would have its own service.
The people are very community-minded. They have been going to other services for years and now they have their own, which is good news.
Over the past five years more and more people have been attending services all over and now families can come and remember here.
