Excerpt from "Gembrook Footy News 1995" - Club History by Harold Ramage
I would like to say, on behalf of myself, supporters and players of Gembrook, and all clubs within our league since 1945, it has been our honour to have known Len Ure.
Len has held many positions within the club, an effort which I believe will never be equalled. He was made a life member in 1956. He began as Secretary 1946 and has given continuous service ever since. The positions he has held are - Secretary for many years, Treasurer, Club President (1959), League delegate, time keeper, boundary and goal umpire, property steward, and team manager.
While carrying our all these duties he managed to play in excess of 400 games for Gembrook. Len and the Club were fortunate to have the support over many years of Len's mother and father, who were both made life members in 1953. Mr. Ure was a familiar face at one of his jobs on the gate which he did for many years. Mrs. Ure was our first Lady Life Member, she was legendary for her coffee making at the dances in the old hall, on the open fire in a 4 gallon tin, made with skimmed milk. She also washed the team jumpers for many years.
