Round 2 - Beaconsfield v Berwick
Seniors
Beaconsfield
took on cross town rivals Berwick in a much hyped Anzac day encounter. The senior side welcomed Gibson, Gwozdiowski and Bertoncello back into the side. Beaconsfield
got off to a slow start and allowed Berwick to snatch a couple of easy goals. However by the end of the term the Eagles had worked their way back into the game trailed by 3 points at the first change. The second term saw Berwick kick with
a strong breeze, something Beacy had not taken advantage of in the first term. The Eagles managed to hold off many Berwick attacks, thanks to great defensive work by Airdrie, Doddsworth and Tonks. The last 10 minutes of the term saw Beacy drop their concentration and allow Berwick to kick 5 goals on end, at the main change they took a 40 point lead.
After the main change Beacy came out firing, Williams and Oakley were proving a handful for the opposition up forward while Taylor and Mislicki were making the most of the first use given to them by ruckman Kenny. At the last change Beacy had caught up trailed by just over 2 goals.
The last quarter saw the lights take affect and the rain come down. Beacy continued their form and kicked the first couple to get within a couple of points. Oakley was continuing to prove a headache for the opposition. Berwick hit back, but it wasn't a long until youngster Hunter put the Eagles in front for the first time. The backline was holding out the greasy ball lead by Tonks. The lead changed hands a couple of times from here, but it was Berwick who kicked away and won by 8 points in a hard fought game.
