Casterton Vs Hamiton
On an excellent day for football, Hamilton won the toss and scored the first two goals. But with Neil Shannon and Bryan McKenzie running the ball out of defence the Cats began to take control. With 2 goals to M. McArlein and singles to Lithgow, Allen, Willesdorf and Smith, the quarter time score was Cats 6-4 to Hamilton 2-1. Highlights of the quarter were Ably's mark, Nigel Allen and Mat Murphy's pace off the wing and Glenn Carroll's ruckwork.
The second quarter saw Cats keep up their dominance of the game. All the Cat's players were contributing. For some reason half a dozen Hamilton players took a dislike to Grumpy Smith. Three fifty metre penalties, resulting in goals, cost Hamilton dearly.
Half-time score was Cats 12-10 to Hamilton 6-3.
Hamilton made many changes which seemed to give it more impetus. With Hamilton forwards at last finding the goals, it outscored Casterton 6 goals to 2. Tagging Tony Lithgow did not curb his game to any extent.
Three-quarter time score Cats 14-14 to Hamilton 12-7.
The last quarter saw Carroll who had dominated the ruck have a spell and Grumpy Smith went on the ball. Casterton took complete control. Goals kept coming, Lithgow kicked 3 to make it 7 for the game. Kicking 7 goals 11 to Hamilton's 3 goals 1 shows just how dominant the Cats were.
Several reports: Grumpy Smith twice and Splinters West once.
Final score: Casterton 21-25 d Hamilton 15-8.
