Round 12 Notes by Liam Durkin

WELCOME to the Traralgon Football-Netball Club for what will be a highly emotional day for both clubs as we take billing as the feature game for Mental Health Round. Today you will see one footballer from each grade wearing a special commemorative jumper with the number zero on the back to represent the push for zero lives lost to mental health, while netballers will wear light blue bibs. Our footballers today will also wear specially made t-shirts in honour of Riley Pearce. The Moe-Newborough women’s team played in a Mental Health Round against Boisdale-Briagolong last Sunday, with a specially designed jumper with Choppy’s number 16 auctioned off for the Black Dog Institute.

PERFECT conditions greeted players, officials and spectators as Moe made the trip east to Bairnsdale last week. The Seniors put together a clinical four quarter display, highlighted by some great running goals. Ruckman Simon Harris was best on ground, while Jordan Ceppi racked up the touches and Kristian Jaksch slotted six majors. Others to perform well were Scott Van Dyk, Ben Maslen, and Lucas Forato.

June 26 v Maffra at Home By Liam Durkin

Scrappy conditions at Moe made for games that weren’t overly spectacular against Maffra last weekend. The club had a former junior in Leo Connolly make something of a surprise AFL debut on Friday night after being named medical sub for St Kilda. Mother Mindy was understandably beaming with pride on Saturday at Ted Summerton Reserve with Saints scarf in hand. Congratulations to Leo and to all who have been involved along the journey.

Liam's Club Notes from Leongatha 19th June 2021

THE resumption of the season after a three week absence had the feeling of a new year, with a degree of the unknown lingering in the build-up. Football action saw a quartet of matches predicted to be close going off ladder positions - and three of those games ended up following such predictions. Unfortunately however, Moe was unable to secure victory in any of those games. An explanation from someone with a greater mind than this writer as to why so many teams get themselves into winning positions and fall short would be of welcome interest.

Club Notes R6 2021

THE result of the senior match last weekend paled in significance somewhat to a mesmeric moment in the second quarter, when Moe captain Jacob Wood took a spectacular mark that probably would have won him a car if he was playing in the AFL.

Club Notes R5 2021

HEAVY downpours last Friday night had players and spectators fearing football games would be turned into a mud wrestle, however conditions eased enough to allow for some attractive games. It was a clean sweep in football, much to the credit of all involved. The senior match saw Moe jump to a 27 point lead at quarter time, which they were able to build on for the rest of the match.

Club Notes R4 2021

JACOB Wood capped off the Lions senior victory over Warragul last week with a cheeky candy-sell and left foot snap to see Moe to a 15.17 (107) to 7.9 (51) win. Wood kicked three goals to be among the best players, and received good support from Scott Van Dyk, Lachlan Macleod, Grady Cocksedge, Ben Morrow and Tyson Biffin. Moe fought off a persistent Gulls outfit, kicking eight goals to three after half-time.

Club Notes R3 2021

EVERYTHING Moe touched turned to gold in the first quarter of their clash with Bairnsdale last week. The Lions had two goals on the board in as many minutes, before adding another five by the time the quarter time siren sounded. From there the team went on their way to a 17.21 (123) to 7.10 (52) victory, giving Jess McGrath a win on debut.

Club Notes R2 2021

MOE put together a good performance away from home in the seniors, defeating Maffra by 43 points. The Lions won 9.15 (69) to 3.8 (26), with Riley Baldi best on ground. Moe got going in the second term, piling on five goals to one before a dour final term saw no goals kicked by either team.

Club Notes R1 2021

CONDITIONS usually reserved for the middle of winter greeted players at Ted Summerton Reserve last Saturday against Morwell. Moe responded well in the last quarter and kicked four goals to one to run out 26-point winners.
