AUDIENCE
All financial members of the Moe Football Netball Club Incorporated.
BACKGROUND
The Constitution of the Moe Football Netball Club allows for ‘…the Board to resolve it is of the opinion that any person nominated for Life Membership has rendered distinguished service…such a person may be elected a Life Member at a general meeting,’
PURPOSE
This Policy aims to ensure the Life Membership is awarded for distinguished service to the Moe Football Netball Club Incorporated. It is consistent with the Club’s constitution and provides guidance to the Board with respect to the election of people as Life Members of the Club.
DEFINITIONS
“The Club” means the Moe Football Netball Club Incorporated
“Players” means any person who is or has been registered to play with the Club
“Life Member” means a member who has been elected to life membership
“Executive” means the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
“Official” means game day official as listed on team sheets.
“Player” means a person who has achieved 200 Club games comprising of senior and reserves football or A, B or C grade netball matches.
“Senior Grade games” means a person who has achieved 200 Club games comprising of senior and reserves football or A, B or C grade netball matches.
“Volunteer” is defined as any role listed in the Club’s organisational chart other than the Executive.
POLICY
The Board may at its discretion annually recommend to an Annual General Meeting up to two persons, as Life Members, who have rendered distinguished service to the Club in any one calendar year.
The Board may refer consideration of applications for Life Membership to the Life Members Nomination Sub Committee.
Nominations for Life Membership are encouraged to be made in a timely manner. Nominations will generally not be considered if more than three years have passed (in the opinion of the Board) since the primary component(s) of the outstanding service (on which the nomination for Life Membership is being judged) was completed or made, unless the Board so determines. This places the onus on the proposers to act promptly and ensures that worthy would be contemporary recipients are not displaced from the period in which their contributions should be recognised.
The name of the elected Life Member shall be entered on the Register.
Any person elected Life Member shall be exempt from payment of any further membership subscription but shall nevertheless be entitled to all the privileges and benefits and be subject to the same liabilities and duties as an Ordinary Member.
CRITERIA FOR LIFE MEMBERSHIP
The election of a Life Member is recognition by the Club of distinguished service to the Club by a member.
This honour may be bestowed on a person by the Club at any appropriate time, and is not linked necessarily to that person’s retirement from the Club. It is also not automatic or awarded based solely on years of service.
Distinguished service to the Club by a member is one which:

Results in the Club being substantially, demonstrably and positively impacted by that contribution, and

Required substantial, commendable and regular personal input, and
-
Exemplifies the Club’s values, and
-
Demonstrates ongoing commitment which occurs over a significant period as defined by, or any combination of, the following:

LIFE MEMBERS NOMINATION SUB COMMITTEE
The Life Membership Nomination Sub Committee shall comprise of a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of six (6) Life Members plus two (2) members of the Executive, one of which will be the Secretary. Participation on the committee can vary from year to year subject to availability of Life Members.
The Secretary shall convene the Life Membership Nomination Committee. In doing so, the Secretary must give due consideration to ensuring diversity in its composition by gender, age and period of service with the Club.
All applications for Life Membership will be reviewed by the Life Membership Nominations Sub Committee annually. The Committee will consider and verify that all nominations meet the criteria described in this Policy for Life Membership of the Club.
The nominees must receive a majority approval, by private ballot, from the Life Members Sub Committee.
A maximum of 2 nominees in any given year will be presented to the Board in any calendar year.
Subject to Board endorsement of the Life Membership Nominations Committee, each nominee will be recommended to a general meeting of members for election as a Life Member.
PROCEDURE
Any current member of the Club who wishes to have a person considered for nomination for Life Membership may complete and forward a submission to that effect addressing the criteria for Life Membership to the Club Secretary (moelionsfnc@gmail.com)
Each nomination for Life Membership shall be endorsed by two members supporting the nomination.
Length of membership alone is not appropriate.
The nomination must address the criteria, articulate the reasons why Life Membership is considered appropriate, and provide specific examples of involvement within the Club.
Assistance from the Club Secretary should be sought to access evidence of service that may be available from various databases and other Club records.
Nominations must be received by the completion of the ‘home and away’ season each year.
The Secretary will advise the Board application/s have been received and shall convene the Life Membership Nomination Sub Committee.
The Life Membership Nomination Sub Committee shall make recommendations to the Board on the outcome of each application for Life Membership.
The Board will formally make a resolution to endorse or otherwise each recommendation for Life Membership it receives from the Life Members Nomination Sub Committee.
The Secretary will notify Board endorsed nominee/s, and prepare a resolution to elect the nominee as a Life Member to be submitted to the next Annual, Special or General Meeting of members (which-ever is the earliest).
Life Membership will be publicly awarded to elected persons at a function designated by the Board in consultation with the Life Member.
