The Leongatha Football Club was formed in 1894. The club participated in various leagues until entering the Latrobe Valley Football League in 1969, where the club has remained ever since, although the league itself has gone through some changes on the way to now being known as the Gippsland League. Leongatha has won 8 senior premierships since joining the league, with only Traralgon having won more premierships in that time. The netball has also been successful with A grade having won 6 premierships since netball was introduced to the league in 1990. This also has only been bettered by Traralgon who have won 7. For the smallest town in the league, we punch well above our weight in both footy and netball.
The Leongatha Junior Fooball Club is also affiliated with the LFNC and fields teams in under 10, 12 and 14s in the Central Gippsland League and under 11 and 13s in the Alberton Junior Football League.
The club motto: "Victory through harmony". Club colours: Green and Gold. Emblem: The Parrots.
The home base is at the Leongatha Recreation Reserve, in Roughead Street. The club boasts a magnificent grandstand, social and change rooms. The netballers play indoors at the SPLASH stadium in the recreation reserve. The junior club plays at the veledrome ground in the recreation reserve, the smaller ground being a perfect size for under 14 and younger groups. Both grounds are well flood lit and night matches are played once or twice each season.
