EMAIL FROM GORDON BAYLEY; 23/5/2013
Hi all
There was a very good point raised by David from Churchill at the League Meeting last night in regard to Injury reporting.
The League does not currently collate injury statistics from clubs and there are some good reason why we should start to do that. The type of information can lead to concerns about ground conditions and player tackling methods just to name a couple.
What I am looking for clubs to supply to us is details on players who have suffered major injuries so far this season. I will qualify the word major to say that the type of injuries that we need to know about are broken or dislocated bones, and concussion.
The type of details we are looking for are as follows:-
- The Players Name
- The Players Club
- The Age group he or she plays in
- The date of the injury
- The nature of the Injury
- The ground that the game was played on
- A description of how the injury happened
- What was thought to be the main cause of the injury – Hard ground, poor tackle, heavy bump, unknown
I am also wondering if any club has a Injury report form that could be adapted to cover all of the above that could be used by all clubs to keep for their own records and a copy to the League
We will start a register, and from that register see if there is any trend happening that can be addressed. For instance there may be some issues with tackles that we may need to talk to the Umpires about, or a certain ground may need to be looked at.
You will be aware that we have moved games off JC2 this year due to it being very hard. If the injury data supports a problem at JC2 then we may have to move more games. Having said that the City is watering JC2 now and there is some rain coming at last, but next year we may need to get the City to begin to water the ground earlier.
So, can you please provide details of any Serious Injury suffered by any of your players, and if anyone has a form already developed, can you send me a copy or give us a copy on Saturday
Thanks again to David for his suggestion
Regards
Gordon
