Welcome to Berrigan Football Club Season 2011
This weekend sees round 1 of the PDFL kick off with a home game against Picola United. The off season has been a busy one for the BFC, with renovations and recruiting occupying many a waking hour for those involved.
The change rooms are all but complete and have certainly made a major improvement to the playing facilities at the club. Committee members and volunteers have spent many hours on this project and the end result will be a credit to all involved. With the completion of the change rooms Berrigan will boast one of the premier sporting facilities in the region and without doubt will provide a sporting base for all those who use it to be proud of. Please feel free to pop in on game day and have a look at the works completed so far.
This year sees a few new faces in the coaching ranks. Chris Cameron and Lincoln Humphries have hung up their coaches boards, replaced by John Creenaune as seconds coach, with Adam Fox and Dean Loats taking over as joint coaches of the all conquering thirds.
On the playing front the club welcomes back Scott Needham, Steve Carr and Mark Needham, who return to the club after playing for the Saints in 2009. The boys bring with them Jordan Toussaint, Matt Smalls and Chris McQueen. Steve Tonta from Moama has also joined the Saints for 2011 and will fill the role of assistant coach.
Our juniors once again look strong and a few boys will be taking the field for their first competitive game of footy in the 4ths. We wish all the boys luck and hope they enjoy not only their first game, but many more to come.
The thirds have been training hard and if pre season form is anything to go by, a few of them will be putting the pressure on some seasoned players for a spot in the senior ranks. Most of the boys had a chance to play in the practice match and the night series and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the challenge. Keep up the pressure boys and defend that premiership title.
Season 2011 looks like being a cracker and I urge everyone to get along and support your mighty Saints.
