Another successful day at Mathoura for the club. It was great to see Mal Hart's twos cement a finals berth. It is very rewarding to see the twos do so well, with all the hard work put in by their coach. Keep working towards the big one boys.
Tomorrow we have our Major Raffle and Family Day. Entry is via ticket only. Tickets are $100 each, which gets you the chance to win $5k, beer, wine, soft drink and BBQ from 12 noon to 3pm. Catch up to Pica or a committee member for your ticket before they are all sold out.
Our AGM is fast approaching - Wednesday 10th August at 7pm. If you have time to spare or have ideas which can see this club moving forward ........ You are needed on our committee. It isn't all hard work, some of it is very rewarding when you see the club being successful. Nomination forms are with Deb in the office, pop in and fill one in today.
Congratulations to Jesse Barker who played his 100th club game against Mathoura last week and to James Balcombe who plays his 100th club game this week against Deni Rovers. Well done boys, plenty more games to come yet.
Congratulations to Lynsie Reid on her 50th C Grade game. Well done Lynsie.
Under 14's - The boys hit a bit of a speed hump last week, being not quite switched on for three quarters and credit to the Mathoura boys who were first to the ball for most of the day. It was hopefully a wake up call to our boys for the importance of every player's contribution in order to have team success.
Under 17's - Great game from the boys on the weekend, a good team effort. Jess, Cam & Tyrone had great games, Dalton and Drew had great games down back. Tom and Jock also tried hard all day. Well done boys.
Reserves - Travelling to Mathoura for a significant game for the reserves, we encountered a cold and significantly windy winters day. Credit to Mathoura for producing a ground that was in good condition given the amount of rain.
We took some positives away from the game with everyone contributing to a team effort. We had a lot of possession and it would have been easy to kick, chase and be undisciplined but we continued to share the footy in what was our best scoreboard result of the season. A tough assignment confronts us this week with the equal ladder leaders sure to prove a stern test at home. Go Bloods.
Seniors - The seniors travelled to Mathoura with a high turnover of players from last week's game. In windy conditions the boys had plenty of it early. Maxwell, Hore and Baron were getting the ball into the forward 50, but the conversion rate was terrible. In the second quarter Mathoura started to put plenty of pressure on, and managed to get two goals which put them in front. With 5 players having already played a game it was going to be a great test of character if the boy were to get up. Aaron Morham was great down back, he was in almost everything, and along with Trotman they stopped plenty of scoring opportunities. At half time the boys really needed to lift, they had the wind in the third quarter and they needed to put some scoreboard pressure on the Timbercutters.
Maxwell really got on top in the ruck and Rennie, Hore and Fogarty worked hard to get the ball into the 50. The forwards finally delivered with a 5 goal third quarter, which gave the Bloods a handy lead in a low scoring match. It was a tough tussle in the fourth, each team really wanted the four points. Baron, Morham and Maxwell gave their all and the team followed suit to get a win.
