Another clean sweep last week against Yarroweyah. A great result for everyone that was involved and to our many volunteers that make the day run smoothly. Don't forget over the course of the day to thank our volunteers for helping with the days matches.
It's off to the Tocumwal Golf & Bowls Club tonight after our matches for the awards. It was a great night last time we all ventured out there, so let's make it another great night for one of our match day sponsors.
It's also great to see our senior footballers helping out in the community. Over a couple of weekends the boys have helped the Lions Community Hostel re do their gardens. Well done boys, your help has been much appreciated.
With our 125 year reunion fast approaching all rsvp's are due back by the 30th June to either TFNC PO Box 1 Tocumwal or tfnc@live.com.au If by chance you haven't received an invite but would love to attend please see Deb on Thursday night or in the office on Saturday for an invitation. This is shaping up to be a great back to weekend.
Under 14's - The boys played some solid footy against the junior Hoppers last week, particularly when they held their positions allowing the game to open up and move the ball beautifully. Tommy, Zander, Chase and Riley continued their very consistent years thus far, Mitch is getting better every week while the two pocket rockets Blair and Kane threw themselves into everything and got the rewards for their hard work. Most pleasing thing for the day was the 11 boys that helped out the Hoppers gave their all in a terrific display of sportsmanship - well done boys.
Reserves - In a home game against the Hoppers were we expected to dominate, began in a very even affair. The Hoppers were competitive and had the ball in their forward fifty for the first few minutes of the opening term. The Bloods were able to kick a couple of late goals to give us a 13 point lead at the first break.
With a solid lead the emphasis was on maintaining pressure and we certainly did that. With veterans Glyn Matters and Tim Brunskill winning around the stoppages and Nick Ball and Reece Hardwidge on the move up forward we went into the final quarter with a 75 point advantage. The last quarter continued to be positive with Corey Herezo dominating the ruck and Jordan Poynton creating space and delivering the ball inside fifty. All the defenders did well not allowing a determined opposition to score. In the end a very disciplined and four quarter effort seen the Bloods run out 115 point winners.
Seniors - Every game is a final from here on in for the Bloods, who are fighting for a place in the finals series. We played host to Yarroweyah on the weekend and the game was a must win for us. The Bloods came out fired up, and were able to dominate play in the first quarter. Plenty of run and carry from the half back line enabling us to 4.1 up at the first break. In the second quarter we were able to bang on another 4 goals to the Hoppers 2. The Hoppers must have copped a blasting at half time because their third quarter was a completely different ball game. They were able to bang on consecutive goals and outscored us 4 goals to 1. At the last break our coaches asked the team to respond in the last and they did just that. Dave was able to boot 2 goals silencing his coaches who still think he is a backman.
The club would like to wish Max (Tractor) Brooks a speedy recovery after he unfortunately broke his leg in the last quarter.
