Goooo the Bloods as we make our way down the MV Hwy to take on the Tonny Blues.
It was the Numurkah Blues that we hosted last week and what a great day, particularly off the ground where we had a good crowd with the Langwarrin & Fish Creek Golfers in attendance, the Lambert Party enjoying the corporate boxes (rave reviews on Natalie's fabulous, flirtatious, fancy, finger food) followed by terrific numbers up stairs to celebrate major milestones in Ash Crawford's 100th and Dave Farrell's 200th senior games.
Must say a big hats off to the Numurkah FNC as their numbers up in our rooms after the game was the most I've seen in a few years. We and all clubs can take their example and finish what should be an enjoyable day of sport with a chat over a few froffies with the opposition.
Also a big thanks to all involved in organizing and taking 35 of our junior netballers down to the Vixens game in Melbourne on Sunday, as from all accounts it was a great game and day thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
Speaking of milestones, as was said up in the rooms, is that while the numbers are fantastic achievements, they are all the more special because of the way these two blokes go about their buisness around our club. While both on the general committee and part of the senior leadership group, with things a bit tough they have taken it to another level in trying to ensure an enjoyable club for all with a long future.
Ash has said he is chasing Scotty B's tally, so we are sure to see plenty more from him, while Dave's loyalty to the Bloods when he could have pretty much gone and played anywhere he wanted has established him as what I believe will be one of the Tocumwal greats. Diva has been captain for 7 years, assistant coach for 5, a regular interleague rep, a premiership player and above all a great bloke and role model. Well done boys, keep up the good work and hopefully many more to come.
Under 14's - The boys struggled again this week against the overall height of the opposition. The back line was kept very busy but Hugh Haynes did manage to score the teams' only goal early in the 3rd quarter. What this team lacks in height they make up for with heart. This team does an amazing job, they turn up each week knowing it is going to be hard but believing that they will soon win. Keep up the enthusiasm, it will eventually happen.
Under 17's - We thank Paul Arnel and his club - Numurkah for their support in last week's game. It is a pleasure to see not all clubs are thinking of flags - but of development. Thanks again and we wish you well for the rest of the season. With young Aaron Morham continuing on with his good teamwork, combining good evasive skills, Jesse Bunnett and his offside in "Harro" we were able to display some good passages of play. Losing Jordan Hicks to a knee injury allowed Cooper - up from the "early starters" - to take to the field. Best wishes "Hicksy" - we hope all turns out really positive. With Brad McCallum and Kaleb working together this brought Collo, Jarrod and Josh into play. While the scoreboard shows a big result to our opposition our players endeavour and never say die attitude was very positive. did "Rhysey" kick the last goal of the game? Ask his mum!
To our club members - you will notice some number changes to our team. Tongala today - good luck to all and enjoy your game!
Reserves - The Toc Magoo's who are feeling the pressure of a mounting injury list had Messy Jessy Baldwin come up from the thirds and we enlisted the help of Langwarrin Legends, Henry "The Octopus" Sannen and Aaron "Bad Boy" Beleisis who under difficult conditions more than held their own. A big day for the Phelan's with much younger brother Daniel being rock solid all day, while Reece and the Frenchman Ryan Philippe both continued their consistent form. Henry the Octopus showed age is no barrier taking several strong grabs, while big Kyle Diwell and young Bourkey tried hard all game.
Seniors - The senior's performance could be described as a bit of a hump on our journey of improvement. The boys would be disappointed as they dropped a bit of momentum with their accountability and skills down on previous weeks.
While still not at 100% Benny Sniffa was let off the leash and with his hardness and flair was our standout best. Dave and Ash were solid on their big day, while Choco and Stevie P continued their consistent year and most encouraging is the improving form of some key forwards in Mick "Mercurial" Madden who showed what he is capable of with some strong work and Daniel Hickey who you can see with more games under his belt will be a great target up forward. Also to note that while not being standouts, the thirds boys in Aaron, Jack and Kaleb all had honest performances as they continue to develop under Nathan's guidance.
