What a fantastic day last Saturday turned out to be. In ideal conditions (apart from the flies), a huge crowd turned out for what was our introduction to the PDFNL. The new strip was revealed with great reports from the players themselves. They looked a treat, well done to the organisers of these. Thanks to everyone that chipped in and helped with the many jobs that are required on the day. Without your efforts this day wouldn't run as smoothly as it did. It was a mixed bag of wins/losses with the Bloods getting up in 4 of the 11 contests. Not a bad start to the season.
The Fourths boys started off our historic day with a renewed sense of enthusiasm as they ran on to the Blighty Reserve in their new strip. The boys started like a house on fire, handling the dewy conditions with ease as they peppered the big sticks on numerous occasions only to have the raday off resulting in 1-6 for the quarter. For the remainder of the game we had some terrific passages of play and were more than evenly matched but just couldn't convert it on the scoreboard, eventually going down by half a goal. Both Jesse Eddy and Daniel Robinett showed plenty of promise in their first games of footy; Jess Barker had plenty of it as did Tyrone Smithers and Baylee Morton whilst Tommy Hatty showed great poise and attack coming out of full back. While the boys were disappointing to get pipped at the post overall it was a great start for the young Bloods in season 2014.
A great start to the year by all the U17 boys. Fantastic team effort and the results showed at the end of the day. Like to welcome our new players to the club: Liam, Fitzy, Ethan and Rory, also great to have the fourths that have made the transition to the U/17's , Tayte, Hughey, Cam and Jay. Hugh and Jay were unavailable but Cam and Tayte preformed very well in their first game at a U/17 level. Also like to thank the parents and helpers who are supporting the boys each Saturday, and another thank you to all sponsors who are helping give awards to the boys after each game. Hopefully we can continue our success on the field every Saturday which only comes from the hard work put in on the training track. Let's get ready for a big game against Deni Rovers.
The Reserves commenced the day with players coming out of the woodwork. If only they could get themselves to training we might be able to see some wins from these boys by the end of the season. The older ones need to take a leaf out of the books of young Jesse Bunnett, Jeremy Rush and Rhys Morham. These boys had a cracker of a first game, due to being fit and giving their all. So let's get down to training and surprise ourselves on Saturday.
The senior game held plenty of interest and didn't disappoint the spectators that came along for the ride. It was great to see so much support. Players from both sides fought out an epic battle, with many coming off the ground absolutely spent. It was a great start for the senior's campaign and we can only hope for this to continue.
What were everyone's thoughts on the new playing jumpers? For a little bit of interest - the Bloods man that is on the front of them was drawn by Colin "Pills" Ball.
