Under 14's - The boys played a great game today and kept the pressure on all day. It wasn't until the last quarter that the mercy rule came into effect. Thanks to Deni for playing with the spirit of the game. All of our boys played well with Andrew Norgate and Kaleb Spicer getting great goals in the last quarter and plenty of behinds. It just goes to show that with a couple of top age boys you boys can do some good work. Keep it up Young Bloods.
Under 17's - First of all thanks to Deniliquin for giving us a lend of a couple of their better players who helped make the game a great contest. Our back line stood tall against a quality forward line. Rob Pyle played another blinder off half back and Jordan Haynes played another strong game in the ruck and down back. Steve and Toddy had their work cut out in the middle but they did their job well. Thanks again to the Under 14 boys that doubled up.
Reserves - Coach Roe was faced with the task of 21 players into 21 positions which had him stunned for the first quarter. The actual break down was 17 players (2 still in the car) and 4 Under 17's. Thanks again to Thommo, Toddy, Crock and Nato. It was also good to see no big outs due to food poisoning after the Magoos cooked tea last Saturday night - thanks to Watty and his team of master chefs. Deni Rams were a bit too strong with Perko and Bobby working hard down back, Harps & Sniffa in the middle, Haydos working hard and a good game from Crock doubling up after the Under 17's.
Thomson Snr showed his head at the footy again but still wouldn't put the boots on to help the boys out. In a lamentable fashion he is trying to place the blame on some other people regarding the stolen score board numbers. I do believe Anthony Snr lives out in the Burma Road area (according to Thomson Snr). We will wait and see what happens in this continuing saga. Hopefully it will be all sorted out by the last week of the footy season.
Seniors - The trip to Deni has always been a tough road for the Bloods. Today we faced the Rams without Whitey, Leeroy and Nathan. Signs were good early with Rick, Kenny, Mugga, Choco, Jack and Josh winning the ball with goals to Rick, Benny Shiels and Josh. Coach Kerr encouraged the boys to keep the pressure on into the wind and they didn't let him down with Deni having a two goal to one quarter. Mugga, Dippa & Chappy worked hard down back and Josh kept presenting up forward but the result in the first half was an even contest by all players when it was time for their effort they presented.
An even third term until Deni scored a two for one from a free only the umpy knew why. The Rams gained a run on with a 7 goal to 4 quarter. Goal kickers were for the quarter Sheilsy, Josh (2) and Coach Kerr. Deni with the aid of the breeze finished too strong. Better players for Toc were Mugga, Josh, Daiks, Rick, Chappy and Big Kenny - and three goals to Shielsy and Big Red.
Congratulations to Ben Shiels who plays his 50th game for the red and white today. All the best Ben.
This week we host Finley to what we hope will be a great spectacle. Good luck to everyone and we will see you up at the rooms after the game for a drink and meal. Tomorrow we have our Sponsors Day with guest speaker Tom Hafey. This is a thank you to our sponsors, I hope everyone has replied to their invitations so as not to miss out on a great day.
