Under 14's - The boys did well in very cold conditions, and unfortunately not too many supporters were to be seen. Where are all the parents of these boys, a bit more of a help from these would be good? We started the game with enthusiasm but that seemed to peter out. Steve Patten played well around the ground and Harley Lucas played hard and was unlucky not to take a couple of good grabs which would have seen him boot a couple of goals. The backline were once again on full throttle with Will McDonald keeping his opponents on their toes by good tackling and spoiling. Josie Hyde performed well with great determination. Kurt Chouffot contributed in the forward line with Harrison Close battling like a bulldog in the backline. Corey Howell contested well all game. Billy Andrew and Jordan Hicks were consistent with good marking and handballs. We held our own in the second quarter but let them get away in the last half, our play seemed to be a bit sluggish - we need to talk it up more. It was a tough day, and once again our manning up let us down, but keep your heads up and train hard.
Thanks to the parents that did brave the wintry conditions and Jordy for helping out and a special thanks to Umpire Koopman for an outstanding performance on field once again.
UNDER 17's - After having the previous week off with the bye the boys ran out with great enthusiasm despite the very cold conditions. The boys started at a ferocious pace with Ash, Liam, Jordan and Robbie all giving their best with great tackles and marks. Some great work in defence from Jack, Matt and Ed. Our defence was put under a lot of pressure but to their credit made Tongala kick a lot of points. Our forward line also got into the action but unfortunately no results on the board. In the second quarter the boys continued to tackle and chase. Again our defence tried really hard. In the last half of the game the boys kept trying with a never say die attitude. Pica made some positional moves which seemed to work as it made Tongala work hard to get a score on the board.
A special mention to Dean Keleher who plays his 50th Under 17's game this weekend for Tocumwal. Thanks again to the Under 14 boys that filled in again. If we could get a bit of help from the parents of these boys it would be appreciated, there is quite a few jobs that need to be done to get the game underway.
RESERVES - The reserves had some late changes which saw Jordan, Robbie and Deano back up for 2 games in a row. Quicky was another late change to help out the boys. Into a strong wind saw all the play in our backline with Bob, Travis, Trotty and Rod working hard. The second quarter saw a heavy clash between Quicky and Rick which didn't help the cause. Again Tongala were solid with Trotty breaking the most tackles in a quarter record supported by Skinny, Bob and Crawf. The third quarter was a similar trend and we had to wait to the last quarter before big Deano snagged a major. Toc's best were Trotty, Crawf, Bob with big Trav rucking and roving all day.
SENIORS - The Bloods travelled to Tongala for a clash between first and second on the MFL ladder. The senior game started as did the rain which only increased the anticipation of both clubs on what was about to unfold. Leeroy's form of late hadn't gone unnoticed as both he and Hairy received heavy tags to start the day. Tongala got off to a flyer with the first goal. Lucas White was winning plenty of the ball through the midfield with Hairy and Chappy working well down back. Good body work from Dundas allowed OC to slot through his second for the quarter bringing the scores all squared away at quarter time.
The start of the second quarter saw good play from down back setting up a goal off the ground from Shielsy. Hairy, Chappy and Dave were solid in defence with Whitey dominating and Young Sniffer and Dundas presenting well. Good pressure from young Mel onto Robbo to Jazza to Shielsy resulting in a goal. Young Mel was involved again this time linking with Timmy, Leeroy and Loges giving Pica a goal. The Bloods had worked hard for a 30 point buffer at half time.
The third quarter saw most of the play from half back to half back. Some Dundas magic out of mid air resulted in a goal. Dennis in his 50th game was solid across half back and Jazza and Timmy good through the middle. Tongala kicked 3 goals to our 1 for the quarter to narrow the half time margin to less than a goal before Robbo and Dundas scored from long range to secure the Bloods their 9th win.
We welcome Mulwala to our ground and great facilities today. All the best to all our netballers and footballers, let's celebrate some wins tonight at our Murder Mystery Night tonight so everyone get along to this night and make it a success for the club.
