Hi to all Blood supporters as we for the second week in a row are away, travelling down the road to play the Road at Congupna. Some fantastic results last week against the Tigers particularly in the netball with good wins to C and the U/12's while the U/17's and U/11's played out nail biting draws and the A Graders went down narrowly in one of their best performances for the year. Also of note the U/14 footballers with several boys missing avoided the Mercy Rule which was a terrific effort. Also a big thanks to everyone that made the ball such a good night especially Jeremy, Lisa, Katie, Nat, Peter and their teams - well done.
Under 14's - As mentioned the U/14 boys had an almighty crack against the well placed Tiger Cubs. Missing some key players due to holidays, the boys got on with the job and played four, more than competitive quarters being a bit stiff not to have a few more on the scoreboard. Tenacious Tayte Wright was gutsy all day and is developing into a strong player, Will "Hurricane" Hatty, Mitch "The Mauler" Vanderhoek and "Leapin" Liam Colston all played beyond their years while "Huge" Hughie Haynes and Billy "Gifted" Govan continued their very good seasons thus far.
Under 17's - Well our very undermanned side took on the Tigers last start. Thanks to Cobram for all the players on loan - they acquitted themselves very well. Without this co-operation there wouldn't have been a game. Maybe it's time for people in higher places to look into junior football in the immediate area! The positives of last week's match would show the continued improvement of some of our "lesser lights". A tremendous effort from "Hicksy" to front on one leg so we had the starting line-up. The younger "Floyd Morham" staying out there after a heavy knock also didn't go unnoticed. We hope for a speedy recovery fellas!
Well done to all the players - we didn't give up on our endeavour and courage.
Top side Congupna today - it doesn't get any better! As we always say - enjoy the game!
Reserves - OC had the Magoo's at fever pitch before the game, determined to get a score on the board after some tough games over the previous week and that's exactly what they did. Big Bird Madden and cousin Peter H certainly made their presence felt with Beau having a blinder of a second half pulling down several big grabs in the last line of defence. Brian "Simo" Simpkin made his long awaited debut for the Bloods and carved up his old Tiger team mates with his get in and get it style frequently dishing off to Mouse Man Poynton who had his best game of the year with countless centre clearances. Tiny Tommy M tip toed through the tulips, racking up possessions at ease, while the very young veteran in Rockin Reece Hardwidge continued what has been very consistent and good form under difficult circumstances.
Seniors - The seniors who are still missing several key players welcomed back The Perkulator and OOSSAA after several weeks on the sidelines while both Ollie Gabba Gabba and Sammy Rennie straight out of the thirds made their senior debuts for the Bloods. Well done boys and hopefully the first of many. We unfortunately caught Cobram on the rebound and could not match the class and run of their very good midfield players who exposed us on our turn overs for most of the day. The Chocstar was again our shining light and willed himself into countless contests, holding his own against the tide. The very sexy bearded one Pica continued his bearded purple patch of form relishing the challenge of being back in the middle after many years without a beard. Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Oy, Oy, Oy and Mick Stanley Knife backed up their efforts from the week before while Stevie Wonder and Cagey Crawf continued their consistent seasons fighting it out to the end.
A date to remember - Our AGM will be held this year on Wednesday 15th August at 7pm at the footy rooms. Please make this date a priority as we need all the support we can get from our players, supporters and members.
