Under 14's - This week saw the "Young Bloods" with numbers on the paddock but lacking enthusiasm. Not suer what the problem was but there was little consistency apart from the third quarter which was our best showing a lot of determination, as we kept Barooga to scoring only 18 points. If we show this sort of effort for the full game some of our results would be a lot different.
Stephen Patten played well all game and saw a lot of the ball as did our back line that battled to keep the stronger opposition at bay. Jess Koopman and Billy Andrew tried hard all day along with Josie Hyde and Hugh Haynes who took some good marks. Bryce Meloury came off injured with what seemed to be a broken bone in his foot - we hope it's better than it looked.
Umpiring was once again on track with the 'wrath of Tutum Koopman' quick to dispel any tongue lashing to he who was in charge.
Three to go - keep your heads up. Go "Young Bloods".
Under 17's - After a week's break the boys came out showing plenty of enthusiasm to play the game. Thanks again to the Under 14 boys for helping out.
Every single player played really well doing lots of tackles, taking marks and kicking well to their team mates and doing a lot more talking. Great work from all in defense. Our secong quarter was much the same with some great defense work from Matt Soule doing a fantastic job trying to stop Barooga from scoring, which he succeeded in several times. Jordan Haynes did well in the ruck winning most tap outs. Unfortunately our forward line had a quiet time as the scoreboard showed.
There were plenty of positives coming out of our last half of the game with some great passages of play. The 'never give up' attitude was great to see. Well done boys and keep it up.
Reserves - Not much can be said of this group last week. We didn't come to play as a team. Our opponents showed us about commitment and working together. That's probably why our position on the ladder reads as such.
However - we still had some players that didn't wave the white flag.
Good players over four quarters for the "Ressies" were: Jon-Ross Cardillo, Peter Cochrane, Matt McWhinney, Tim Brunskill and Peter Absolom.
Let's put it together as a team today!!
Seniors - Last week's result at Barooga might have set peoples' thoughts to think negative.
We knew this match was going to be a tough slog. Our opponents opened the game up in the first quarter with an eight goal blitz. Still - we did manage five goals ourselves.
As good sides do - we kept our endeavour up to outplay our opponents in the second quarter - but to see little reward on the scoreboard. We kicked a miserable 2.7 to 1.1. Maybe we should straighten up better when going forward.
The second half was a continuation of the first - hard physical footy at its best with neither side going to drop off their intensity. Scores all square at orange time - the last stanza was set for a beauty. We were travelling well until halfway when a few silly decisions under pressure allowed Barooga to go on with a win.
We shall improve immensely from this match. Good players for four quarters were: Michael Hare, Sean Logie, Lucas White, Jarrod Kelly, David Farrell and Travis Haynes.
Congratulations to Shaun Micallef for playing his 50th Reserves game for the club today and also to Harrison Close on playing his 50th 4ths game for the club. Hopefully both of you will celebrate today with a win.
Don't forget our function tonight from all reports it should be a ripper. As the season is nearing an end how about getting behind the club and attending this much awaited function.
Nomination forms for our Annual General Meeting are in the office so if you have a bit of time to offer to the club think seriously about jumping onto the committee for next season and helping out. Many hands make light work. See Deb in the office for your form.
If there is any member or supporter that would like to be a sponsor of one of our trophies for the years final presentation night please see Deb in the office for further information.
The juniors of the club would like to thank Tocumwal Hot Bake for donating the pies for last Thursday night's pie night. It was greatly appreciated by all. Thanks Chris and Dionne.
We welcome Finley to our ground today. Hopefully we will put a few wins on the board and make tonight's function a much more enjoyable occasion.
