Wow!! 125 year reunion. What a celebration it turned out to be!! It was fantastic to see such a large array of eras represented. Well done to the organisers of this wonderful event, a job well done.
Congratulation to Tim Carr who was awarded Life Membership for his contributions to the club. This award is normally saved and presented at our annual presentation night but as Tim lives in Manila, it was suggested to be done at the reunion breakfast whilst Tim was in the country. Tim has been the backbone behind the gathering of our history. Well done Tim.
A medal was also struck during the last few months in honour of the tireless work that Jim Cullen does around our club. The Jim Cullen Medal has been created for our Senior Football B & F winner. If anyone wants to see what it takes to be a great clubman they need to follow Jim's shadow around for a couple of weeks and see what's involved.
This week after the trek home from Mathoura we will be meeting at the Terminus Hotel for our awards. This will be a great chance to use your Terminus Hotel awards.
Congratulations to Rhys Morham who finally played his 50th reserves game last weekend against Strathmerton. This week's milestones are Keith Baron playing his 50th seniors game and Mitchell Vanderhoek playing his 100th club game. These are all great milestones to remember, hopefully you all have successful days.
Under 14's - While the fourths boys were beaton on the scoreboard, their effort against the top placed Dog's was terrific with everyone playing to instruction and hard at the contest. Keep working hard in order to finish off what's been a good year.
Under 17's - Fantastic game from the boys on the weekend. Everyone worked hard and showed consistent effort for the entire match. The awards went to Mitch Vanderhoek, Connor Paganoni and Tyler Jeffress who all played a fantastic game.
Reserves - The two's ran out against a tough Strathmerton team on Saturday with a view to earning a finals spot. To our credit we defended really well and kept them to 2 goals for the quarter while we added a late goal to be in touch at the first change.
The 2nd term was an arm wrestle with the Bloods trying to stay in the game and the Bulldogs trying to put us to the sword and they ran hard. Eventually we had five shots for goal but managed only one major, but the signs were good. Strathy by 3 points at the half way mark.
The last half was dominated by Toc but the Dogs kept battling and conceded nothing. In the end we kicked 5 goals 5 behinds to 2 goals 2 behinds in the last half. It was our best team effort for the year and proved we are a good chance to make the finals for the first time since 1981 if we can keep winning.
Seniors - It was a massive weekend for the Tocumwal Football Netball Club welcoming back past players, coaches, supporters and towns' people, celebrating 125 years of the club's existence. The senior boys knew it would be a tough day facing Strathy given their recent form. In front of a massive crowd the first quarter was a hotly contested footy match. Both teams were wanting to make a good start and have a lead going into the first break. At the main break Strathy had the lead 2.4 to 6.10. In the third quarter Co-coach Sean Logie was able to show the masses what he does best, kicking consecutive goals from just about anywhere. The boys rallied behind him bringing the score to within two goals at three quarter time. With a game on their hands Toc gave their supporters everything they had, unfortunately the more experienced Strathy players were able to hold onto their lead and find options within their forward line.
