The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has volunteered their time and efforts for the 2010 season. To all our umpires, coaches, timekeepers, scoreboard attendants, gate keepers, runners, water carriers and caterers thanks once again. It is because of all you individuals that a club keeps operating. We hope to see you all again next year.
The club held their AGM last week with Stuart Roe being elected President again for another season and Reece Hardwidge our new Vice President. We also have some new faces on the committee this year with Amy Gray, Tim Farrell, Tim Garlick, Jordan Haynes and Daniel Phelan, we welcome them aboard. A big thank you to our out going committee members Ian Lang, Carl Cummins, Greg Watmore, Ken Chellew, Rosa Anthony and Brett Anthony - thanks for your support over the last twelve months.
Under 14's - The boys played a great fighting game against Mulwala and the efforts by the whole team were to be applauded. They really played a four quarter game to put our best score on the board for the whole season. Great work by Billy, Kaleb and Bryce to score five goals between them, we really had them on the run at one stage. So great to see the boys perform top work, one more to go let's go out today and see if we can beat what we did last game. Congratulations to Hugh Haynes who played his 50th U/14's game against Mulwala.
Thank you to Mulwala football club in how they conducted themselves at junior level. The spirit in which they played the game was to commended; it really showed our boys how we can be competitive with a few top age boys added to our list. Thanks once again to their coaching staff.
The committee and supporters would like to take this opportunity to thank Rodney Meloury for coaching again this year and to his right hand man Peter Howell for doing all his paperwork for him. A big thank you also to the parents that helped Rod & Peter out during the year, without you the games would not be able to take place. We hope to see you all agsin next year.
Under 17's - Thank you to Mulwala who helped us out all day lending up their senior boys to make it a great contest. Captain Jordan played 4 quarters in the ruck and gave 100% to be best afield. Jake McCallum came back into form with a good game across half back and half forward. Choco kicked 2 great goals from centre half back in the last quarter and Will McDonald copped an elbow to the head but bounced straight back to his feet to be one of the Bloods best. Well done boys.
The committee and supporters would like to thank Pica for coaching the boys again this year; the boys all respect Pica very highly. This is his third year at the helm and has done a great job with the boys, with a hand full now playing senior footy alongside him. Thanks also to Pica's right hand man Tim for being the team manager for the second year in a row, also to the hand full of helpers that put thier hands up every week to do the jobs that need to be done for the game to begin. Hopefully a few more will make themselves available next year and not to leave it to the same few to do everything week in and week out. If parents want their child/ren to play footy we need as much help as we can from you. If everyone put their hand up you would only need to help a couple of times a season. Think about it over the summer months and come forward before the season gets under way next year.
Reserves - Toc came up against top side Mulwala and it was a bit like another famous battle in history - the Lions versus the Christians - and the result was similar; however there were some gallant efforts. First off Jono winning the toss of the coin and then lined his team up the wrong way - Lions 1 Christians 0. Jared up against a 6'9" opponent won plenty of the ball and enjoyed his run on the ball. Ben Lucas in line for the goal of the year and Coach Roe had Jared, Matty, Ben and Watdog in his quarter time despatches along with a special thanks to Tom & Jacob who came across from Mul to help the Bloods out. It was also great to see ex-footballer Rob Kemp return from Moree for the game. Coach Roe was pleased with the effort up to half time and challenged his boys to hold the love for another half. Good games from Matty, Benny, Bobby and Jared.
Fortunately, the relationship of Thomson Snr and the Club has been restored following the miraculous return of the "missing" scoreboard numbers. It's just a pity that the Anthony's had to move house as result of this saga and the attempt to shift blame to them. The club hopes there is no repeat of this sort of issue next year.
Seniors - An even start with Nathan kicking two goals and other chances missed. Rick & Nathan were leading up and down the back; there were some good match ups with Chappy on James and Mugga, Dave & Scotty picking up Muls forward rotations. Mul kicked into gear in the second quarter with their running game starting at half back through Partker who set up play for Muls midfielders and their forwards. Third quarter was tough again with Mul kicking 7 goals to Toc's 1. Nathan had scored the card to this point and Whitey was looking for some support down forward as the backs had battled very hard under extreme pressure. The Lions finished with another 5 in the last. The Bloods are now looking forward to the bye and their last game against Barooga.
Congratulations to Luke Chapman who plays his 50th senior game for the Tocumwal Football Netball Club today. A great effort Chappy!!
Today will be your last chance to order team photos. These are $10 each and are to be paid up front to the team manager, these will be available for collection on Presentation night.
Tonight after our game against Barooga we will be holding a Texas Hold Em Poker night. This should be a great night to finish the season off. If all goes well we might look into holding more of these nights. Tomorrow morning we are having a pleasant Sunday at the clubrooms when our major raffle will be drawn, this day will get under way at around 11am. Get your tickets from a committee member around the club.
The best of luck to all teams today against Barooga, let's finish the year off on a high. See you up at the clubrooms after the game.
Finally, a big thank you to the hard working committee of the Tocumwal Football Netball Club. Well done on your efforts this year they have not gone unnoticed. As a parent or member of this club please take the time to consider how you may be able to do more to support the committee in the future. The club are always looking for new people to come on board at all levels, so have a think about how you may be able to contribute to the club. You will certainly gain a lot of satisfaction from the hard work you put in.
