Wow welcome to Winter. What a cold blustery day for footy. It certainly has brought out the winter woollies. One win in the football and three wins in the netball. Things are looking good!!!
Our Under 14's were defeated by Barooga last weekend although the scoreboard didn't reflect the workload of the Toc boys. With a number of players out for the day, it was up to our younger crew to step up, we lacked a bit of height and direction. Corey Howell and Hugh Haynes played well in defence whilst Stephen Patten and Jess Koopman worked hard around the packs. Jesse Baldwin and Billy Andrew continued to lead and provide opportunities further up field. Brad McCallum battled well in the ruck, but was a bit outdone by the reach of his opponent. Bryce and Brandon Meloury were both trying their hardest, whilst Lachlan and Samuel Varley continued to work hard for the team. To the Toc boys keep putting in the effort and enjoying your footy, the rewards will come. Thanks to Brendan from Barooga for helping to fill our numbers, great game.
Pica's boys ran out with great enthusiasm even though it was really cold and raining. Special thanks to Stephen Patten and Jess Koopman for stepping up and taking the challenge of playing Under 17's. In the first quarter we had some really good defence by Keiran Andrew and Matt Soule. The boys tackled really hard and kept the pressure on, especially the back line. Good play by Robbie Pyle and Liam Dakin. Some good marks were taken. Chris Patten did some good tackles and great marks. The scoreboard didn't really show how close the play was. In the 2nd quarter some fierce tackling was required again by the back line. Robbie Pyle had his hand in a lot of play and unfortunately Jordan Haynes was injured. The third quarter started with Robbie Pyle once again getting the ball and passing to young Stephen Patten who kicked a beautiful goal. Our defence was under attack again. Jake Brasher injured his nose and down came the rain. Matt Soule was moved to ruck. After a big rev up by coach Pica the boys came out fighting despite the scoreboard the defence did try really hard to win the ball. Better luck this week boys stick to it and you certainly will be rewarded.
The Reserves had coach Lucas Ryan away and Chris Jones took over the helm for the day. We had Shaun Finnigan back and would also like to welcome back Reece Hardwidge and Talon Farrell back to the club. The boys had a really good first quarter, they were competitive against the Barooga boys but couldn't get the goals, going in at half time only 17 points down against the reigning premiers. We struggled in the third quarter letting Barooga slip away, the three quarter time huddle was really pumping, Chris had the boys revved up for a big last quarter. We made some changes but it wasn't to be. The boys fell apart in the last quarter and ran out of legs.
The Seniors are playing great footy at the moment with four wins. The seniors went into Sunday with one change. After running through a banner for Scott Baldwin's 250th game they came out of the starting blocks firing. We had a great first term going into the break with a 31 point lead. In the 2nd term we let Barooga back in and fought hard for a 23 point lead at half time. In the third term we saw some great football. A brilliant last term with 9 goals straight to Barooga's 1 goal helped them finish with a percentage boosting 79 point win. Well done. Mention must be made of our full forward Ben Shiels who kicked a bag of 10 goals.
