Congratulations to Brent Davis who plays his 200th club game and Laura Palmer who plays her 100th club game this week. Well done to both of you.
Under 14's - The U14's game against Mathoura could have gone either way, but to our boys credit they applied some terrific team pressure to the opposition and made the most of their forward entries for a hard fought win. Most pleasing was the very even contribution from 24 boys all having a crack and playing some good team footy. Welcome to Mitch Condon who showed some good signs in his first game with the Junior Bloods.
Under 17's - Well done on the fantastic win for the boys against Mathoura a fortnight ago now. Great consistent game. Drew and Tom played an awesome match, backed up by Jesse and Tyrone. An outstanding team effort.
Reserves - The Magoos were again undermanned with four U17's fronting up for their second game of the day which was a super effort. Mathoura got away to a hot start with a 21 point lead at quarter time. Corey played in the ruck for the first time in his long career and battled manfully against the opposition and played well. The next three quarters were a contested ball feast with both teams throwing themselves around in a display of desperation. We were never able to get the goal that would put us within striking distance so credit to Mathoura. The 32 point loss to Mathoura has seen us drop out of the finals race for the moment but we intend to persist with our aim of August participation.
Seniors - The Bloods went into Round 7 knowing it was a must win match. In the first term Mathoura showed that they were not going to be pushovers. The midfield combination of Jarrod, Jack and Jarrod M, who made a great start in his comeback game, showing great poise and skill, gave the Bloods a 2-goal break at quarter time. In the second term Mathoura started to peg the score back. The Bloods managed to hold a 5-point lead at the main break but were not playing at the standard required. With a few choice words from the coaches at half time the Bloods came out firing in the third term. Every player seemed to lift and Toc reaped the benefits of some hard in and under play. Fogarty had the ball on a string and along with Kelly delivered the ball into key forwards, Baron and Flanagan on numerous occasions. The Bloods went into the last quarter with a 64-point buffer. To their credit the Mathoura boys did not stop and put some scoreboard pressure on Toc. With a few decisions going their way the Timbercutters got their tail up and got a roll on. It was up to the leaders in Patten, Maxwell and Baron to get the Bloods back on track. Scott Baldwin played his first game back from injury, but was questioned later that evening by games record holder, Rob Crow as to if that would be classified as enough game time to warrant an official game on his tally. Word has it that Rob is now considering a comeback to training on Tuesday night. In the end the Bloods prevailed by 42 points.
