COACHES COMMENT -
Grand final day presented a great crowd and a very warm day. Our girls started strongly and let Strathmerton know we were going to offer up a very competitive game. In the first quarter we opened up our attack end well and Katrina was shooting great goals. We were able to apply pressure all over the court and kept ourselves in the game.
In the second quarter Strathmerton were able to show greater control of the ball when they gained a turnover and they made sure they finished off with a goal. Our defensive end was working well and we had chances but the pressure of finals saw us 5 goals down at half time.
With some positional changes and fresh legs we started the third quarter determined to stay in the game. We worked strongly to make better use of the ball and converted strongly. Both teams were putting out lots of defensive pressure and it was a very good quarter of strongly contested netball. The scoring in this quarter was even.
The last quarter was competitive and the pace remained fast despite the warm weather. Again the defensive work of both teams was very strong and both teams found it difficult to find quick easy passage into the goal circle. Tocumwal girls worked hard to get within four goals but Strathmerton worked very strongly to take the margin out to gain a six goal win. The relative lower scoring game was a reflection of the great effort both teams had in applying strong defensive pressure for four quarters.
Congratulations Katrina, Leisa, Jacinta, Elsi, Amanda, Tamara, Millie, Meg, Leah, Bree and Brooke on a great result and in impressive achievement in our first season of the Picola league.
Thanks to all our helpers throughout the season and the finals, your support and work is greatly appreciated.
