Under 14's - What a fantastic effort by the "Young Bloods" against a bigger side second on the ladder. We went down by 11 goals, but they had to earn every one of them.
The first quarter was a bit sluggish with Deni getting off to a 6 goal lead, but we picked up in the second with some powerful defence leading away out to the flanks with good hands, marking and our passes hitting the targets. The centre and forward play was excellent keeping Andrew Norgate and Jordan Hicks busy as the score line showed, with sides almost square for the quarter. Plenty of pressure and hard tackling throughout the game saw everyone on the team put in 110%. We went close to winning the last, but full points went to Deni who played a good honest game, good luck in the finals. Hard to single anyone out, but Josie Hyde showed great courage all day, and Harley Lucas, mate, you have developed into one determined footballer, well done. Go "Young Bloods".
Both umpires encouraged a flowing, running game which was good to watch, and I did notice our resident umpire was sporting a new look, seems he traded his bent over beanie for a cap. A sure sign warmer weather is approaching.
Under 17's - The U/17's had a pretty tough game against the ladder leaders Deniliquin last week. You all did very well and the scoreboard did not show this. Better luck this week against Cobram, make this last game for the season a good one.
Reserves - A really committed effort from all involved last week. While the reserves didn't win on the score board - it was felt they earned respect. You can't ask for much more than that.
Good to see the "Pie Eater" - Ken Chellew get through a full hit out.
Great to see a couple of old stagers make the trip. Well done "Knackers and Donny".
A good team effort by all involved - with exceptional games by David Trotman - Could he play seniors? - The "skippa" Matt McWhinney, Tim Brunskill, Nick Mellington - until injured and Matt Harper. Gee guys, if we only went to training!
Seniors - It would be fair to suggest our performance last week - to be our worst for the season. Way too much was left for too few to carry the load.
Where was the support for our teammate when the "heavy stuff" was on?
It seemed we had some players worried about self preservation, rather than go down the team line.
An excellent game by the skippa - Lucas White ably supported by David Farrell, Michael Hare, Jarrod Kelly and the ever reliable Matt Robertson.
From this group - we fell away for a four quarter effort. Good sides re-group and we believe we have a good side.
With hard decisions to be made at this time of the season there will naturally be disappointments from some players. We all know this is part of football. Good luck to our selection committee.
Today we re-group and perform as a committed unit. This will hold us in good stead for the future.
Let's get the win on the board and bring home the Minor Premiership for the club.
Tonight we have a karaoke night to round off the home and away season. We also have a cocktail slushy machine to sample. Get down and show us your talents off the field. Everyone welcome to join in the fun.
Good luck to all our netballers and footballers in your quest for the four points today.
It looks like our A Grade netballers will be playing their first final on Sunday 30th August at Congupna. The senior footballers will be playing their first final at Mulwala on 5th September. Let's pass this information on to all our supporters and towns' people and get them behind our club for the 2009 finals campaign.
