Under 14's - The "Young Bloods" battled hard all day, and the contest was a lot closer than the scoreboard would depict. Every player had a crack, and with great conditions there was some good passages of play, tackling was strong and we applied plenty of pressure all day. If the end result could be knocked down a few goals each quarter, we'd be right in it. Stick at it guys, keep applying that pressure, and play as one team.
The umpiring was once again a repeat performance of the previous week - in form, although I hear that later that day, there may have been a slight speech impediment. Go "Young Bloods"!
Under 17's - The U/17's had a pretty tough game against Finley last week. We can hold our heads high though as you all never gave up. With only two games left let's get out on the training track and make it easy for your coach and yourselves.
Reserves - A much better effort overall with "Young Mel" dropped back to gain ground time and confidence - he certainly was a leader out there. Finley threw in a couple of "ole stagers" - one knew how to play!
The good thing to come out of this match would have to be the marked improvement of our future seniors - doubling up from a thirds match. Well done guys - the club are proud of your efforts.
A tremendous game across half back by the skipper - Mr Quinny! He was ably supported by terrific work from Matt Harper, Keiran Andrew and Peter Absolom.
While we had a couple get "sucked in" - we shall learn from this. It's hard enough to get the footy one short from a send off - let alone win the game.
Very good players over the journey would read: Nick Mellington - B.O.G., Matt McWhinney, Matt Harper, Keiran Andrew and Peter Absolom.
Seniors - With two very good "ins" for Toc last week - Ben Phelan and Tim Garlick - the traditional derby got under way.
Hard running off the lines provided our key forwards plenty of opportunities. "Big Red" in the ruck kept feeding the onballers - they in turn kept feeding the forwards. To their credit - Finley kept persevering as best they could. So much so - the selectors were "ringing" the changes due to poor decision making by a few of the Toc players.
Half time scores would read: 16.10 to 2.2. Whilst this looked commendable we did miss a few "gimmes".
The second half saw our blokes lift their work rate - to the point where everyone seemed to want to kick a goal. This can happen with a lop sided match.
Looking at our opponents - this scribe reckons at least six of them wouldn't be out of place riding winners at Rosehill! They never threw the white flag up Finley.
Excellent performances over four quarters for Toc: Glenn Dundovic - 14 goals, David Farrell, Joshua Roberts, Sean Logie and Jarrod Kelly.
We expect a much tougher opponent today - this is the business end of the season!
Well done to everyone involved with last Saturday nights production. It was fantastic to see some of our senior footballers in a different light. We have some very talented footballers not only on the field but also off the field. I am sure everyone that attended the function enjoyed themselves and look forward to another of this kind next year - Thanks Judy for the time and effort that you have put into this great night. Thank you to everyone that helped out on the night.
Last Sunday we had our official opening of the new sports and function complex and our sponsors' day combined. It was a great day with everything going to plan. It was quite interesting to hear Lee Warnett and Lucas White's footballing resumes. We certainly do have talented footballers playing for our club.
Good luck to all our netballers and footballers in your quest for the four points today.
