Under 14's - Another tough day on the paddock for the young bloods. We got off to a slow start, and seemed fairly sluggish all over, but the boys picked up in the latter stages of the game keeping Nathalia to 2 goals in the third. Our centre covered a bit of ground, but let our opponents run through to the forward line to create the extras putting a lot of pressure on our back line, who once again battled hard all day. It's good to see we're keen to move up forward with the run of play but we must remember to get back and man up. This week will prove to be another tough match with Numurkah in the top 6, so let's listen up in the huddle, man up on the field and talk it up. Go Young Bloods!
Under 17's - The boys started strongly seeing a lot of the action in the forward line from the start. The teamwork was great to watch; they tackled hard all game and kicked well to team mates. Our back line was kept quiet for a change. Our defence was put under pressure at the start of the last with Nathalia trying to put a score on the board. The first 5-6 minutes was a hard fought battle with both sides trying to get a score. A great game by all players and it just shows that you can play well and have a win. Congratulations to you all it was a great game to watch and you deserve the long awaited win. Keep it up and you never know what is down the track. Congratulations to Matt Soule who plays his 50th thirds match today for the club.
Reserves - The "Lunch Time Crew" had a terrific game with our opponents - Nathalia. Excellent work in the centre and around the ground by "Big Red" - gave our boys a fair crack at causing an upset.
Hard running from Jacob Hore, Matt Harper, Mick Tinkler, Charles McKenna and "The Young Warhorse" Bob Bourke at CHF saw the team get over the line for four points by 5 1/2 goals. When was the last time "Toke Ressies" beat Nathalia?
Very good players in an overall team effort would read: Mick Tinkler B.O.G., Travis Haynes, Matt Harper, Jacob Hore, Ben Warnett and the young fella at CHF.
FOOTNOTE: The big fella had a trackie top on for the photo shoot last week. Where's the club "tee-shirt" guys?
Seniors - With our tremendous ladies "imbibing" in "Tha Dry Area" - our senior side hit the turf. By the way - Happy Birthday Deb!
Great to see young Jono Andrew in for his first senior game for "Toke". Must mention the tremendous attitude of our captain - Whitey - he certainly encouraged young "Jono".
With Lucas White, Lee Warnett, Sean Logie and the finishing work of Glenn Dundovic - our first half of football saw us 4 1/2 goals in front. Also prominent up to the long break was Ash Crawford, Jazza Kelly and "Robbo".
The third quarter saw "some" of the best "team football" Toke has produced as a committed unit. Our opponents threw everything at us - as good clubs do - but to set up with eight goals to one, the match was well and truly settled.
With us losing a couple more to injury - Ben Phelan, Nick Mellington and maybe the "Pie Eater" Ken Chellew - our seniors worked together to score a comfortable 12 goal victory. It must be mentioned that a few people believed this to be Ash Crawford's best game at senior level. Well done Ash!
Best players over four quarters would see Lucas White B.O.G., Jazza Kelly, Glenn Dundovic - 10 goals, Sean Logie and "Tha Smiling Assassin" Dave Farrell on the back half.
Thanks to everyone involved with organising last week's ball. For those of you who attended you no doubt had a great night and for those that didn't attend you missed out on a great night.
We need to get all players behind these functions that are organised for you. You never know you might surprise yourselves and enjoy the time with your fellow peers. Come along and give it a go.
