Last week we were "On The Road Again" and let's say we were on song again. Firstly congratulations to everyone involved in the Tocumwal Football Netball Club on a successful day at our rivals Berrigan, to have what has been the wettest, windiest and coldest day of the year, it is a credit to all the players, supporters and helpers who braved these conditions and turned out! Our Football Department came away with 4 wins from 4 games. Talking to some of the stalwarts they believe that it could have been 1990 since this has been achieved. A big thank you to Loatsy and his Berrigan crew for being so welcoming on the day!
SENIORS - Through some HARD WORK, DEDICATION & COMMITMENT, reward came our way! In what was trying conditions the boys came out firing! It's amazing after a great week and great numbers on the track how things start to fall into place. It's amazing that getting together of a Thursday night makes it come al la natural of a Saturday! The boys used the wind to advantage in the first and got the jump on the Saints. Kenny controlled the centre and with the A Team in the middle adjusted to the conditions and gave Dizz first option going forward. Disco was solid in defence and moved the ball forward while Lug managed to clear things out with a couple of massive kicks.
Second quarter made the boys have to think smart and play smart against the breeze. It was a case of being switched on and not get caught out. Big Dizz stole one out of the hands of OC but converted and put another major on the board. Kicking 4 goals into the wind Kirch and Eli managed to slot a couple of majors.
With the rain pouring down during the half time break we knew it was going to be a slog in the second half! It became a battle of the fittest and our boys stood up. The big K Train controlled the middle again and had a field day! Micky O, Boxer and even OC had plenty of it. Lug managed to get a kick or two while Horey ran amuck all over the ground!
In the last it was a case of holding tight and sticking to the basics of wet weather footy! Braddy just wandered around and the ball seemed to follow. Stevie P went to the middle for a gallop and the Vet had to go give birth! The boys managed to slot 3 majors and finished off strongly!
MIDDAY SHOW - Well the boys showed that when they get their act together they can play football! With a full side for the second week in a row OC was EXCITED to have a group of blokes run out together that wanted to play footy. And play they did! With a great combination of youth and let's say experience, the mix was right for a good day. It was a shootout between the Poynton Brothers. Troy found the big sticks and Corey followed suit, between them kicking 11 sausage rolls for the day! With Jossy, Skinny and Porn Star in the side along with Glyn and Batea they knew how to use the ball. Let's stick together after today's game and enjoy a few beers.
UNDER 14's - Last Saturday's game against the junior Saints was another tight one that the ever improving Bloods reversed the first round result, with a well deserved win. Following game plans to perfection, putting their bodies over the ball and being disciplined enough to run both ways, were the reasons for the boy's success.
In his 50th game Jesse B played a real captain's game, while Will H, Daniel R and Tom H all continued with their consistent good form. Mitch V was very strong around the ball with Aden D and Drew E both very solid across half back, rebounding on numerous occasions. We need to now go up another level today to have a chance against the second placed Dees.
UNDER 17's - A good win by the boys under cold and windy conditions. A few of the senior guys were quiet and players like Peter Brentnall and Liam Matthews stepped up. A good effort by Troy Poynton up forward and it was good to see Tayte Wright back amongst the fold. Thanks to all the U/14 boys once again backing up for their second game of the day. Let's get ready for Jerilderie this week.
Just a reminder that there is plenty of hoodies of all sizes still available upstairs at the bar.
