With Echuca United not having a Under 14's side we were all able to have a little bit of a sleep in last weekend. What an awful day for football with the drizzly rain, but then again it is a winter sport.
Under 17's - A very wet day, but skills were high. We had plenty of scoring opportunities but just couldn't manage to convert.
Young Kaleb Spicer had a fantastic game in the back pocket, putting his body on the line and cutting off plenty of Echuca attacks. Steve Patten played four quarters of good footy in the middle to be best afield. Everyone gave 100% all day and we are looking forward to this week against Nathalia and are hoping to have our first win.
Reserves - We not only welcomed wintery conditions but we also welcomed back OC, Dennis and 1st gamer Vanders. Good to see Mitch back after injury. United got away to a good start before OC goaled for the Bloods. The Bloods had plenty of the ball in the second quarter but couldn't find the goals. With rain in the 3rd quarter Echuca had too many options up forward. Better players for the day were - Reece, Mitch, Perko and Bobby.
Seniors - Congratulations to Ben Lucas for his first senior game with the club and it was also good to have Muggas back after injury. Early signs were promising with Rick finding Whitey for an early goal. United had the better of the ball until Lee & Rick goaled and the game was all square once again. United then scored a late goal to edge in front at quarter time.
Pica got one early to start the second term before Hueston got two to give United the edge. Jack Shannon goaled and United quickly replied before Nathan kicked one from the angle. Not much separating the two sides at half time.
Whitey snapped one to start the third quarter but United held the ball in their forward line and scored three in a row to put the Bloods under scoreboard pressure. Jono got a late goal to keep it to 7 points at 3 quarter time and setting the final term to be a ripper.
United got the first to start the last followed by a soccer off the ground to give them a match winning lead. Toc kept fighting on but to no avail, going down by 25 points.
Today we play Nathalia and are hoping for some much needed wins around the club. All the best for all netball and football teams this week. Congratulations to Jordan Haynes who plays his 50th 3rds game for the club this week. Well done Jordan.
A big thank you to everyone that supported the Trivia Night at the clubrooms last Saturday night. Thanks Pica for organising a good night, from all accounts everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves with a few laughs along the way. We had a few interesting answers for the artist that made the sculpture of David!!!
Another big thank you goes to Carl, Steve and Rod for umpiring for us last weekend. Along with Brett who fills in on other weekends we wouldn't be having our football matches without these guys. If anyone could help with our central umpiring shortages pop into the office to see Deb or speak to our President Stuart.
