The St.Arnaud reserves had an emotional 11 point loss to
Boort on the weekend. The sad passing of Cathy Coloe during the week had the
saints urging for a win, but fell short.
The saints lead by Sam and James Coloe, started slowly being
flat footed, while Boort took full advantage of the quarter as they kicked the
first two goals. Zach Notting was able to kick the saints first for the game.
But the quarter was taken away by Boort as they kicked three more goals to
finish the quarter 4 goals ahead.
After coach Ezard fired his players up at quarter time, the
saints came out very strongly in the second. But it was Boort who kicked the
first for the quarter. The saints started to use the ball well and kicked two
quick goals through Adam Devereux and Jarryd Kell. Midfielders Jacob Patching,
Carl Baldock and Sam and James Coloe were strong out of the middle and assisted
the saints to two more goals to Kell and Brock Ezard to finish the quarter only
3 points behind.
The saints tightened up in the third quarter with both teams
struggling to convert goals. After a while the magpies were able to break
through to kick 2 goals to have some breathing space going into the last.
Into the last quarter, the saints trailed by 15 points and
started very well. They kicked one through Notting. Boort fought back to get
back its lead. Many wasted opportunities by the saints proved costly as it went
goal for goal, with the saints kicking two through Luke Reyne, only to have
Boort do the same to end up victors.
