MDUFNC & the Responsible Serving of Alcohol
The Meeniyan Dumbalk United Football Netball Club has over the past few years made a conscious effort to make all Club members more acquainted with aspects of the Liquor Control Reform Act by conducting courses for its members. By doing so, we aim to improve people’s knowledge and awareness of issues relating to the responsible serving and management of alcohol and the regulations associated with providing alcohol in a family oriented Club atmosphere. Over 50 Club members now hold a current R.S.A. certificate.
The Club recognises the importance of holding a liquor licence and the value it adds to the Club, enabling it to generate income and hold social functions, but in doing so the Club also accepts the responsibilities and expectations of the community in strictly adhering to the liquor licensing laws.
The Club operates as per a Restricted/Limited Club Licence. The licence allows the Club to serve alcohol to members and their guests on the license displayed at the Club Bar.
The Club will adhere to the provisions of the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 at all times. Where guidance or assistance is required with the Act, Liquor Licensing Victoria or the local Victoria Police Licensing Inspector will be consulted.
The following sections of the Act are of particular importance:
-
Persons under the age of 18 years are not permitted to consume alcohol on licensed premises unless accompanied by a parent /guardian /spouse (over 18 years of age) and partaking in a meal.
-
Alcohol will not be served to persons who are drunk.
-
Persons under the age of 18 years are not permitted to serve alcohol.
-
Persons who are drunk will not be permitted entry onto the club premises
-
Persons who are drunk will not be permitted to remain on the club premises
Alcohol being brought into the ground on match days is strictly prohibited.
The Club will strictly adhere to the provisions of the Restricted Club Licence and the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 regarding minors (under 18 years of age) on premises.
Persons on the licensed premises and under 18 years of age not meeting the requirements of the Liquor Control Reform Act or Restricted Club Licence will be asked to leave the premises immediately and parents contacted where possible and deemed necessary.
Only photographic proof of age will be accepted.
The Club will provide non-alcoholic beverages free of charge to designated drivers when that person has taken the responsibility of driving others home safely.
Bar staff shall encourage members and visitors to make alternate safe transport arrangements if they are considered to exceed .05 blood alcohol concentration.
As part of the planning process for significant functions (such as the Club Presentation Evening), consideration shall be given to organising transport to and from the function. Such transport will be charged at cost to patrons. Phone calls to arrange a taxi (or other transport) will be free of charge to Club members and patrons during operation of the Restricted Club Licence.
In 2007, the Club applied for and was awarded Level 3 accreditation as part of the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports Program.
