One of Avoca’s favourite sons, David Veitch, an Electrician, was appointed Coach for the 1985 season, with Graeme Alexander as Assistant Coach.
Although the club was bitterly disappointed to miss the finals, finishing fifth on the ladder, they took consolation in the depth of the junior talent which was emerging through the ranks of the under 16’s.
The thirds, coached by Darren Curtis and captained by Dean Jolly, lost the second semi final by two points to Marnoo.
However, after beating Landsborough convincingly in the Preliminary Final, they secured a berth in the Grand Final.
Although they played gallantly, Avoca lost the match by 17 points.
