Lindsay Family
Throughout the 1940`s and 1950`s the Lindsay family earned the reputation for producing tough, talented footballers.
Aged 17 years, Kevin Lindsay started playing football for Avoca near the end of the war years.
In 1946, Kevin and Bill Lindsay both played for Avoca, and were two of the club’s best players in the First Semi Final side which was beaten by Moonambel.
Kevin was extremely versatile, and over the years played in every position.
In 1948, at age 21, he won Avoca’s Best & Fairest award.
Unfortunately club records were not kept in 1949 and 1950, but by 1951 Kevin and his younger brother Brian were both playing for Avoca.
Although they possessed plenty of natural talent, the pair were renowned for their fearless approach.
Both become a part of Avoca football club history by playing in the historic 1953 Premiership side.
Brian was selected on the half back flank, whilst Kevin, who was also voted Best Clubman, played in the Back Pocket.
Kevin was again officially honoured by the club in 1955, after 12 years of `distinguished service`, and retired in 1958.
In 1957 Denis Lindsay, who was born at Lamplough and played junior football with Avoca, carried the family tradition to Murtoa, winning the Best & Fairest award twice.
After a career that spanned 14 years, Brian Lindsay played his last game with Avoca in 1956, and then became a devoted supporter of the club.
Even though Brian`s employment forced him to move away from Avoca, he followed the team`s fortunes closely, and has returned to support the club in all its finals appearances.
That is Loyalty!
