The Avoca Public Park has been the home of the Avoca Football Club since 1915.
In the late 1970`s and early 1980`s, Barney Trainer became the resident caretaker, and was a laugh a minute.
For the past decade, Laurence (Pud) Curtis was the caretaker, until his death late in 1992.
Like Barney Trainer, Pud was also a very popular character.
Although Pud was very fond of the amber fluid, to his credit the ground and rooms were always spotless on the morning following a match.
Despite a hangover Pud had everything shipshape by 8am, ready for the players Sunday morning training session.
He loved the company of the boys, and one morning decided to take a turn on the punching bag.
Unfortunately, after giving it a hell of a thump, Pud turned his back on the bag to take a bow in front of several enthusiastic spectators.
As if retaliating, the bag swung back viciously collecting Pud square on the back of the head and knocking him out like a light.
That was one hangover cure Pud had not counted on.
