After a promising 2010 season, 2011 saw a number of players that had been the nucleous of our success in recent years leave the club, which had an impact on the playing list throughout the senior & reserves teams resulting in both grades dropping down the ladder.
One positive out of the list of departures was that it provided an opportunity to play a number of junior players which resulted in 21 players playing their first senior games for the club during the season.
The Under 17 team played off in the finals and were defeated in the semi final.
An Under 15 competition was introduced in 2011 and our team had a great season. They were held scoreless in the opening game and improved throughout the season to be defeated in the Preliminary Final by 15 points. This was a great outcome considering their start to the season, and there is a lot of promising juniors for the coming years.
There was a number of milestone games but the two most significant were Ben Howell and Brad Wardlaw who played their 300th club games and became Life members as a result of doing so. Both players have been outstanding contributors over the season’s and are also very active off the field.
Sam Beavis and Aaron Calder also played their 250th club games and are also very strong contributors around the club.
Best & Fairest for the second successive season was Lachlan Edwards.
Despite our senior football teams failing to play finals, 2011 was a successful season for the club with 8 of our ten teams playing finals.
