Rationale
This policy sets out the minimum criteria to be eligible for nomination for an award of Life Membership of the Avoca Football Netball Club.
This award exists to recognise the valuable contribution of individuals to the current and future existence of the Club. It is therefore only to be awarded in exceptional circumstances.
In considering the award of Life Membership an individual should have demonstrated significant, sustained and high quality service enhancing the reputation and future of the overall Club.
The points to be taken into account when considering any nomination include:
1. General Considerations
- The general attitude and overall demeanour of the nominee shows a dedication to the values of the Club
- Commitment to the principals of good sportsmanship, leadership and modelling the Club’s Code of Conduct
- Valued leadership and good role modelling that reflects credit upon the Club
2. Length of Service
- The length of service to the Club should be extended service of 10 years as a player and/or as a volunteer role with such service in either role being taken concurrently.
- *300 Game Recognition – Games will start to be recorded for footballers including Under 17s, Reserves and Seniors only. Games will start to be recorded for netballers from 15 & Under, 17 & Under, C, B, & A grade. Up to 2 games per week will be counted in the total tally.
*Number of games does not automatically achieve Life Membership. The nomination process must be completed as per the process outlined. All criteria need to be considered before confirmation of Life Membership status.
3. Other Specific Criteria
- Specific achievement, both on and off the field, will be taken into consideration (e.g. club/league awards, league representation).
- Outstanding service in the four areas of service in the Club include: Playing (including leadership roles/captain); Coaching/Managing; Administration; and General Contribution (including fund-raising, ground maintenance, supporting and other issues that a Committee may see as relevant)
- Must be a current financial member of the club to be considered in the year of nomination.
Benefits of Life Membership
- Award of the Life Membership at the Avoca Football Netball Club Annual General meeting
- Exemption from general membership fees associated with the AFNC (this excludes player registration costs)
- Inclusion and recognition on the Club’s website, Honour Board and social media pages
- Provision of membership keyring.
Process for Assessing Applications for Life Membership
- Nominations for Life membership should be forwarded by a Committee member to the Secretary of the Club Committee no later than 6 weeks before the AGM in each year on our club application form.
- Nominations must be submitted on the Life Membership Nomination Form with the proposer and seconder who must be financial members of the AFNC and that one is an active member.
- Nominees should demonstrate:
- attainment of minimum service requirements.
- an outstanding contribution in at least one of the four areas of service
- with at least some contribution in two of the other three areas or
- contribution deemed appropriate at the discretion of the Committee
- other details of exemplary service.
- The final list of endorsed nominations for the award of Life Membership will be submitted to Executive Committee members for agreement before the AGM.
- Subject to agreement by ALL Executive Committee members, Life Membership may be awarded at the next Club Annual General Meeting.
- The decision is final and if a nomination is not endorsed by the Executive Committee an additional nomination could be submitted in future financial years.
